Siegfried Fischbacher, 81, is terminally ill with pancreatic cancer and is at home following a 12-hour operation to remove tumor... nine months after Roy died from COVID-19

Siegfriend Fischbacher, 81, is 'terminally ill with pancreatic cancer,' according to a report from German publication Bild.

The famed magician is reportedly at home in Las Vegas following a '12-hour operation' to remove a malignant tumor.

Siegfried was 'released from a clinic at his own request' and is being taken care of by 'two hospice workers' just nine months after his partner, Roy, died from complications following a COVID-19 battle.

3. Sawing A Woman In Half On Sunday January 17
-------------------------------------------
Message by Charlie Burgess AIMC (UK)

David Copperfield, magic's global superstar, will be the headline interview in an online event celebrating the centenary of the first public performance of the art's most iconic illusion - Sawing a Woman in Half. On Sunday January 17 The Magic Circle will host the free event on the anniversary of the day in 1921 that PT Selbit stunned the entertainment world with an effect that has fascinated audiences ever since. The event will be open to all.

Debbie McGee, Paul Daniels' partner on stage and in life, will speak of her experience as the woman who found herself dismembered on numerous occasions. As Noel Britten, the President of The Magic Circle, said this week: "Debbie has been sliced, diced, cremated, crushed, divided and decapitated more than most so has a great story to tell."

Also making a guest appearance will be Sooty, the only non-human member of The Magic Circle. He will be cutting a doll in half.

The evening will chart the invention, history and development of this effect with magicians, magical historians and social commentators giving their take on the twists, turns and variations that have been seen over the years. It has been the cause of numerous feuds, deceptions and downfalls. Would PT Selbit, sawing through a seemingly simple wooden box have envisaged Copperfield sawing himself in half in full view on a Las Vegas stage with a massive chain saw? Magician Simon Drake and historian Mike Caveney among others will give their perspective. The event will be streamed on The Magic Circle Unlocked Facebook page at 6pm GMT on January 17

www.facebook.com/themagiccircleunlocked

Notes to editors:

PT Selbit's real name was Percy Tibbles but a near anagram of that gave him a more serious identity. The public performance was at the Finsbury Park Empire in London and the woman who was sawn in half was Betty Barker.

The Magic Circle, a UK based international society of magicians, has 1,800 members worldwide.

4. FISM Crowdfunding
-------------------------------------------
Message by Domenico Dante - FISM International President

The crowdfunding organized by United Magicians for the World ended on 31st December 2020. All the donations were received by FISM (PayPal and bank account) and registered in our accountancy as follows:

Total Amount: Euro 12.104,65 (PayPal € 10.389,00 - Bank account € 1.715,65)

By common consent from the Continental Presidents (FEB) and after consulting also Walter Rolfo, two of our lawyers, Hanno Rhomberg, President of MRA Austria (whose Club did a similar fund raising for Austrian Magicians), and Norbert Ferré (President of a charity organization) it has been decided as follows:

The full amount will be equally split among all the competitors registered in WCM 2022 and aged from 16 to 25 (at the date of the convention in Quebec).

Thanks again to Walter Rolfo for this great initiative. We estimate that there will be around 50 young magicians that will compete in WCM 2022 but we will inform you in detail when registrations have been made.

9. Dave Magee On The Magic Word Podcast
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold Star

This week's guest on The Magic Word Podcast is a hard working magician who has no doubt flown under the radar of most magicians in the world. But he wasn't overlooked by the Johnny Thompson. Dave Magee was a morning radio talk show personality who migrated to magic and found success in trade shows and Indian casino showrooms to his own one-man show.

Along the way he employed the consulting work of the Great Tomsoni and their relationship evolved to become very close friends. In this podcast, Dave also talks about working for charity (see: FREE) shows and how they can benefit your career if you select the right ones. It was because of his work with these shows that he became friends with celebrities from stage and screen and New York to Los Angeles.

You can listen to great stories and advice in this episode wherever you get your podcasts. But for more information, then be sure to visit: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/593-dave-magee

There you can also enter the contest that is going on for one more week for a chance to win one of three eBooks being offered by Romany, "Spun Into Gold." And while you are at the website, be sure to sign up for the weekly podletter where you will be among the first to know about our contests, learn who is on this week and next week plus suggestions from the archives.

10. Sean Bogunia On The Magic Word Podcast
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold Star

While traveling to Michigan from Texas last Fall to deliver Walter "Zaney" Blaney's two dogs, I spent time with Sean Bogunia recording a podcast episode. Many of you know him as being the creator of the Dancing Hank in the Bottle, but he has many other creations as well. In this week's episode, Sean talks candidly about his emotion (some might say "traumatic") journey to becoming a full time magician and creator. This episode probably has more stories than any other episode we have broadcast. From his grandmother's death to David Copperfield leaving "the smell of royalty" behind him.

You can listen to this episode wherever you get your podcasts. But for more content including videos, photos and to read the blog, please visit: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/594-sean-bogunia This week we also congratulate the winners of our recent contest for eBooks of "Spun Into Gold" by Romany: Jeroen Wijs, Tom Cerny and Richard Killion. We also welcome our newest Friend of The Magic Word, Chuck Arkin. Welcome, Chuck and thank you for your donation to the podcast.

Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold Star

Happy New Year, listeners. Thank you for staying up to date in the magic world over this past year by continuing to listen to The Magic Word Podcast. We have broadcast 55 episodes (including convention coverage of the S.A.M. convention in Las Vegas) over this past year with nearly 75 hours of listening pleasure. If you missed any of the episodes, you can always look through our archives to see what you may have missed.

This end-of-the-year episode wraps up 2020 with a fun conversation with Romany, the Diva of Magic, from England. This week, Romany talks about her career and how she came full circle to doing what she once dreamt of when a young girl. Her twists and turns along the way gave content to her book, "Spun Into Gold" which recounts her life ventures from street magic to Las Vegas and cruise ships. She also talks about her struggle with bulimia and her "shape" and gives advice to young girls who might have similar issues.

You can listen to this episode (and others) through Apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. But for videos, photos, and more, please visit: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/592-romany There you can also enter the new contest for a chance to win one of three eBooks offered by Romany. 14. The Okito Card Force - John Carey #106
-------------------------------------------
Message by John Carey (UK)
http://www.johncareymagic.co.uk/

You can never have enough tools in sleight of hand. I'm particularly addicted to card forces. Each have their strengths and weaknesses. The Okito card force is so named because it uses the clean up move one normally uses to righten an Okito coin box. I was inspired by Roberto Giobbi who had a method for cleaning up the deck in the context of a Triumph routine. He published it in his book Secret Agenda. Pre-set the deck by having five or six cards reversed on the bottom of the deck. The Ten of clubs which will be our force card is lowermost. Execute any false shuffle or false cut and then table the deck.

Ask a spectator to reach over and cut away a fair size packet. Extend your palm up left hand and take that packet from them. The right hand picks up the remaining cards from above with the palm-down right hand. The right third finger held against the right edge of the packet and protruding below the cards. Bring this packet about ten inches over the left hands cards and let it drop on top. The packet will flip over mid flight and then land on top of the other packet just like the Okito coin box move. Deal the card they 'cut to onto the table and let them remember it. Add the card to the deck and read their minds ;-)

Notes: This does leave you with a dirty deck so obviously you would apply this force where no further use of that deck is required.

16. The Orchante Saga - Beginnings
-------------------------------------
Written by the late Tommy Orchard (The Amazing Orchante)

Trevor King - QSM, A Living Legend!
{Q S M - 'Queens Service Medal' - For Services Rendered In A Particular Field Of Endeavour}

If you were to ask the average New Zealander, "Who Is Trevor King?" - more than likely you would get a blank stare, a shrug of the shoulders and a "Dunno!" in response. Yet His Name - The Man Himself, is held in great esteem and, is highly respected by some of the biggest names in Show Business throughout the world! In attempting to record Trevor King's entire life-story, I may have bitten off a lot more than I can chew! Only Trevor himself and, several large volumes I would think, could possibly complete it!

I've known and have been friends with my 'Uncle' Trevor since 1960 - we met in Christchurch when I was with: 'Joe Brown's Nationwide Search For Stars, Finalists on New Zealand Tour'; I was only 16, going on for 17, years of age at that time. Oh my silvery /grey hairs, that was 42
years ago! Fortunately, Trevor has remained in contact with me over all these years and even more importantly, I have kept every single one of his postcards and letters (carefully stored away in a big box) - most of which are of two or three pages, often more, in length. Each one covers the news of the time and detailed information about Who Is Doing What In New Zealand and, 'juicy' inside information that, I can promise you, many would wish I didn't have! (So, behave yourself - you just never know what I might know, about you!)

From the Beatles to the Vienna Boys Choir, he knew them all, and they all - 'loved' him! So much so, than an amazing array of famous (and not so famous) International 'Show Biz' Stars, that reads like a - 'Who's Who', have chosen to remain in contact with him over the years
and, continue to do so to this day (except those who have 'kicked the bucket')! Following, is a list of Theatrical Shows and internationally famous 'Names' (in no particular order - that way you don't offend anyone) that Trevor has been associated with, in his capacity as: Tour, and or Advance Manager, during his 40 plus years with: 'Kerridge-Odeon Theatres Ltd., The Largest Theatrical Organisation In The Southern Hemisphere' (I don't know if that title still holds these days)! Also, JCW Theatres Ltd. and the Tivoli Circuit!

The Beatles, Kenneth Mckellar, The Welsh Choir, Rolf Harris, Cliff Richard, Gene Pitney, The Dave Clark Five, Ray Columbus And The Invaders, Chinese Acrobatic Troupe, The Vienna Boys Choir Tours, The Seekers, The Luton Girls Choir, 'Franquin' (New Zealand Hypnotist),
Sir Harry Secombe, Kenny Ball, Grahame Bell Jazz Band, Kingston Trio, Ronnie Ronalde Show, Freddie Bell And The Bell Boys, Tex Morton Country Show, Frankie Stevens Pop Show, Patrick O'hagan, The Village People, Andy Stewart, The Platters, Bill Haley And The Comets, Ted Heath Big Band, Nat King Cole, Whirlings All Star Circus, Wirths Circus, Engelbert Humperdinck, Max Merritt And The Meteors Show (NZ), Sir Howard Morrison Show (NZ), Dutch Swing College Band, Louis Armstrong Band Tour, Dame Kiri Te Kanawa (NZ) Tour, Shelly Berman, Roy Orbison Tour, Tom Jones Concerts, Mr Acker Bilk Jazz Band, Maurice
Till Concerts (NZ), Nina And Frederik Show, Black And White Mistrel Show, John Rowles Show (NZ/Hawaii), Val Doonican Show, Danish Gym Tours, The Bachelors Show, Everly Brothers Show, Modern Jazz Quartet, The Rolling Stones Tour, The Maori Volcanic Showband, Rodger Fox Big Band Tour, Des O'Connor, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs Show, Vera
Lynn Show, Eddie Calvert, Roger Whittaker, Alan Jones Four, Yehudi Menhuin, Danny La Rue Show, 'Dormia' (N.Z. - Worlds First Lady Hypnotist), Toni Williams (NZ), Dinah Lee (NZ), Peter Paul And Mary, The Irish Rovers, Herb Alpert Band, Dusty Springfield Tour, The
Hollies, Frank Ifield Tour, Dave Clark Five N.Z. Tour, Cliff Richard Tour, Johnny Ray Show, The Trapp Family Tour (Sound Of Music), The Harlem Globe Trotters, Ice Follies, Judith Durham (Seekers) N.Z. Tour.

The list of names and shows is never ending. From the 'few' that I have listed here, it becomes rather obvious - to say the least, that Trevor King's credentials are impeccable!
