2. MAGIC Live Online!
--------------------------------------------
Message by Stan Allen (USA)
How to Take the Virtual Stage
In the 1990s, fifteen-year-old Simon Pierro lost twenty
dollars to a street monte hustler, triggering a fascination
with the art of deception. Shortly thereafter his sister
got him a book of magic tricks.
Simon, now known as The iPad Magician, spoke at MAGIC Live
2017 about how YouTube now defines the viewing preferences
of an entire generation, and how it's a world of opportunity
for magicians.
"How to Take the Virtual Stage" is the fifth in
our collection of General Session talks now available online.
I hope you enjoy these signature presentations from past
MAGIC Lives!

The next MAGIC Live is August 5-8, 2018 in Las Vegas.

3. The Magicians Of Coney Island
--------------------------------------------
Message by George Schindler (USA)
March
28, 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Brooklyn Public Library, Central Library,
Dweck Center, 10 Grand Army Plaza, New York, USA.
Many of magic's most influential and innovative performers
found their footing in the escapist shores of Coney Island.
Harry Houdini, Dai Vernon, Al Flosso, Jean Hugard, and Horace
Goldin are among the magicians who entertained there and
grew into world-renowned talents.
In
this free event, magicians Richard Cohn, Mark Mitton, Herb
Scher, and George Schindler will highlight numerous notable
magicians who made an impact at Coney Island and they will
perform feats of magic the likes of which have enthralled
audiences there for more than 125 years. They will also
explore what it is about Coney Island that has attracted
and nurtured so many colorful conjurors, look at the magic
performed at Coney Island today, and consider the prospects
for its future as a home to amusement and amazement.
The
participants in The Magicians of Coney Island are all active
members of the Parent Assembly of the Society of American
Magicians, which has been a nexus of magic in New York City
since 1902.

5. The Magic Word Podcast - Luke Dancy
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold Star
For
seven years, Luke Dancy worked with Criss Angel for his
Television shows as a consultant then later helping to direct
behind the camera. Of late, he has been in front of the
camera working for Murphy's Magic Supplies as the host of
"At The Table" lectures. He also hosts a weekly
Vlog from his home in Las Vegas that is live streamed on
Murphy's Facebook page and YouTube channel. With a lifetime
of experience as a magician and now at 38 years old, Luke
has done nothing else but magic for his whole life. This
week on The Magic Word, Luke talks about his unique skill
sets and stories from his life that I know you will find
interesting.
You
can watch one of Luke's videos, see some candid photos taken
during our recording for the podcast, read the blog, listen
to our chat plus hear some product reviews, and download
the MP3 file at: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/411-luke-dancy
And
congratulations this week goes to Matthew Neely who had
the most correct votes (eight out of 24 categories) for
the winners of the Academy Awards (Oscars) which was a contest
we ran on Facebook. Be sure to follow us so you won't miss
out on any future contests.

7. The Magic & Comedy Festival In Sweden
--------------------------------------------
Message from Tom Stone (Sweden)
For
the fourth year, the Uppsala Magic and Comedy festival will
happen. Ten days with magic and humor, in the town Uppsala
slightly north of Stockholm in Sweden. Started as a work
of passion by Johan Stahl in 2014, then just for a weekend.
It has since then grown into an eleven-day long experience,
from April 20 to April 30.
It
is well worth a visit for anyone who happens to be in northern
Europe in April.
The
website is in Swedish, but you can use Google Translate
to read it.

8. Gone Or Forgotten - #478 - Kyle Peron

Message by Kyle Peron (US)

As
we travel down the road of being a magician, it is quite
amazing the people we meet, the places we see and the experiences
we all go through. It is quite a journey of discovery, adventure
and enlightenment. We sometimes fail, but most often we
learn from these experiences and we move forward.
We
strive to do better and become better in what we do. We
seek to better ourselves and our magic along the way. But
as we travel further down the path of the magical arts,
do we also become blind? Do we fail to see things around
us? Do we become too determined to reach some place that
we fail to remember where we came from and the folks that
got us there?
Is
it so easy to put blinders on as we walk the path of our
magical career. Each of us may travel a different path,
but we must not always look ahead. We must also look behind
us as well. We must not forget the important things that
make us who we are.
I
think too many magicians seem so focused on themselves that
they fail to see others around them. They fail to see that
there are folks that they can learn from. They fail to understand
that there is good in empowering someone else who may be
at a lesser skill level then they are.
Magic
should be about brotherhood and friendship. However, too
often this gets lost in the strive to become the best. We
tend to hang out with people our own age and level but we
exclude those who are beginners or even those who are older
than we are.
So
many times an older magician is excluded because we think
they have nothing of value to share. This cannot be further
from the truth. Do not forget these folks. Many have been
in magic for years and have seen and know more than we would
ever hope of knowing. The information they can share with
you is priceless. The stories they can express, you can
learn from. Allow them to mentor through their experiences
and grow from it.
Likewise,
the beginners also cannot be forgotten or ignored. YOU have
an obligation to better the art by giving a bit of yourself
to someone else. If we want the magical arts to thrive and
get better, we must not forget those who are just starting
out along the journey.
There
is so much that you can share and give back to them that
they will learn from. You can empower them and teach them
the right ways of not only performing an effect, but why
doing so entertains an audience a certain way. Your failures
you have worked through, you can share in hopes that they
may not make them as well.
Do
not forget those magicians who have passed on and whose
broken wand remains dormant. It is these folks that have
blazed the path that we travel on. It is THEIR stories,
commitment, devotion and work that have allowed us to get
where we are. We must honor them and their legacy and pass
on this information to the newcomers in the art.
Do
not be in such a hurry that you fail to truly see what is
around you. The magical arts need folks who remember and
who see clearly. We need folks who do not forget where they
came from as they head for where they want to be. Share
your gift and share what you know with those who seek an
interest. Take the time to teach and to reach out to others.
If
we take just a moment to see the magical world around us,
we may start to realize the true value we each can give
to keeping the magical arts alive and well.
As
always, I encourage you the readers to let me know your
thoughts. So, if you have any thoughts on my articles or
suggestions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me directly
at KyleKellyMagic@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you.
