Believe it or not, but the scout season for banquets is right around the corner. NOW is the time to get your materials together and to start gathering up leads for the sub packs you want to directly market to. But how do you start to acquire a master leads list so that you have contact information from which to start your marketing? Let's talk a bit about an easy process that can work well for anyone.

In order to market effectively to cub packs, you first must gather the right contact information for the cub packs you want to market to. You simply cannot send anything out unless you know who to send it to and where.

The easiest method to start off with is Internet research. There is a wealth of information that can be obtained about cub packs and locations and contact information just by spending some time up front to do some serious website searching.

When you begin your searching you are mainly interested in:
- Cub pack number
- Cub pack location
- Cub pack master's name
- Cub pack master's e-mail address
- Alternative names and contact's e-mail address
- Any possible mailing address
- Council for which the pack belongs to

This is a good generalized list of what you want to be looking for and recording as you begin your internet research. Keep in mind that you may not always find all of this. That is OK though. The idea is to find and plug in as much information as you can find. The main goal is to start generating your "leads list".

So where do you begin? You have Google.com up and what do you do from there? Are there websites you can check out and start with? Let us explore this next and give you valuable information and resources that will directly help you get started.

The first website you may want to directly check out is the actual national scouting website.
The link for this is: http://www.scouting.org/media/lcl.aspx
If this does not work for you, go to http://www.scouting.org and then click on the "Local Councils" button on the top navigational area.

They have a nice and powerful database and application called the council locator. Every cub pack must belong to a council. Because of this, you can get direct council information by simply going to this link and plugging in your zip code or zip codes in surrounding areas.

As you can see, you already just landed on some killer and valuable information and it only took you a few minutes. This information is very valuable to you. It will give you a council that packs belongs to for each area or zip code. It also gives you their phone number, direct address and their website. The website can then lead you to more direct contact information.

Another tip you can do is to go back to Google.com and type in the pack number and location in Google. I might type in "Cub Pack 249 in Pottstown, PA. What this often does is brings up a link of that cub pack's website.

So, you can clearly see that with a little time and internet research, you can generate a GREAT leads list rather quickly. This will be your master guide for which to go forward with your marketing. It takes just a little bit of time, but by using the links and ideas above, you can find a wealth of information at your fingertips.

If you would like more detailed information about scout shows and how to market to them, I cover off on a lot of this and more in my book "Blue and Gold: The Complete Guide to Working Scout Markets". It can be ordered by going directly to: http://www.magicenhancer.com/Blue/Gold.html If you have any questions about working the scout market, please feel free to email me directly. I would be happy to help you out in any way I can. So, get busy and start getting your materials ready for a successful scout season ahead.

As always, I encourage you the readers to let me know your thoughts. So, if you have any thoughts on my articles or suggestions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me directly at kylekellymagic@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you.

10. Movie Magic - The Larry Thornton Collection
--------------------------------------------
Message by Magicana

For the past year, our followers have been able to view over thirty hours of magic performance video in The Screening Room. This opportunity was born out of a collaboration with Dale and Lynda Harney to bring footage of their TV series, The Magic Palace, to a brand new audience almost forty years after it was originally recorded. (The full story of the series and how it came to be was described in the profile of Dale in the April, 2016 issue of Magicol, now sold out.)

Through that collaboration, we were brought into contact with magic collector Larry Thornton. When most magic collectors are focused on accumulating apparatus, books, posters and ephemera, Larry set his sights on a different medium. In the early 1970s, he set about collecting the visual record of magicians who performed on film and television. His collection included a nearly complete set of VHS recordings of The Magic Palace, in remarkable condition.

But that was not all. Before the age of home Betamax and VHS, Larry would visit magic conventions and, using state of the art equipment (8mm film!) would record magicians performing. Sometimes on stage as part of convention shows, but often performances were shot privately in hotel rooms for small close-up audiences, or just the camera. Through the years, Larry has maintained a meticulously catalogued collection kept in pristine condition and where are pleased to be able share some of the treasures of that collection with you.

Some of the performers include:
Daryl
Paul Gertner
Albert Goshman
Paul Harris
Sid Lorraine
Johnny Ace Palmer
Marvyn Roy
Michael Skinner

Magicana would like to thank Larry for his vision, for entrusting us with the record he has created and for allowing us to make them accessible to magic enthusiasts around the world as part of the ever-expanding Screening Room. We invite you to enjoy some Movie Magic!

11. Deanna Shimada - A Life Remembered In A Nutshell
--------------------------------------------
Message published on Facebook by Luna Shimada Losander

Deanna was born in a small country town in South Australia on December 13, 1943. Deanna always had a natural flair for things and loved dancing, horse riding and modeling.

In 1959 she became Miss Port Adelaide where she also won seamstress lessons which she later used her skills to make her own cloths. She also won several Rock N Roll Dance competitions. She was a photographer catalogue model, modeling many products including lingerie. In 1964 she was working as an usherette in a theater in Adelaide called the Theater Royal where a touring Variety show called Tokyo Nights came in for a run featuring a very young and exotic Magician from Tokyo, Japan by the name of Shimada.

Well it was love at first sight, she said as she had never seen anyone so mysterious and exotic before. Mesmerized by his dashing looks and stage persona and his magical skills, she just had to meet him. They met in a coffee shop nearby where they could barely communicate with each other due to their language barrier and yet somehow love prevailed, especially after she showed him her modeling shots.

This was the beginning of a whirlwind romance that eventually led to their marriage in 1965. They moved to Sydney, Australia where they worked in many local nightclubs across the city and appeared regularly on television. They began their humble career as a team of performance artists and shortly here after in 1966, they had their first child, a daughter they called Lisa ( now known as Luna ) With their first born in tow, they began their life on the road with their show taking them across 7 continents and over 27 countries where their career progressed and performed in prestigious venues like the London Palladium, regular appearances on the Johnny Carson show and headlined in Las Vegas Showrooms with notables such as Liberace. Deanna was a great source of inspiration to her counterpart husband Haruo where they collaborated and conceived their unique acts such as the Japanese Parasol act and the Dragon Act.

Deanna also used her sewing skills to make all of their elaborate stage costumes and other secret magical apparatus. Deanna also came up with the name for the magical effect Fickle Fire, a collaboration between Shimada and Kakuchi. Now a standard effect in magic. A beautiful elegant gliding shadow on stage, many considered Deanna to be one of the best Magic Assistants of her Era and was emulated and admired by many. She was Shimada's biggest fan and the power behind the throne so to speak for 30 years. In 1979 Deanna and Haruo had a second child, a son name Jason.

In 1997, Haruo and Deanna divorced and went their separate ways after 3 decades and an illustrious career.

Deanna was forced to re-evaluate and reinvent herself. She had always had acute senses and intuition, an ability that steered the course of their lives. With Luna her daughter being heavily involved in esoteric studies, she began to take an interest in the mystical arts. This interest was later enhanced by her meeting of her future fiancé, Daniel Hamilton, a man who made a career in the Psychic Arts. He began to mentor her and along with Luna's support and additional training, she found her new passion and her natural ability. In 2007, Daniel Hamilton Passed away suddenly leaving Deanna heartbroken and still unwed. With her strength and perseverance, she was a survivor for she was no stranger to heartbreak. Since then, Deanna Shimada has used her unique skills and acute senses and life-long experiences and wisdom and has helped 1000's of people in her 20 years in this field. She specialized in Tarot, Palmistry, Numerology, Hand Writing Analysis, Soul Retrieval, and Past Life Regression.

She was a counselor, life coach, mentor and mother figure to many.

She was vibrant, youthful, very funny with a great sense of humor, she could also be biting and blunt with not much of a filter but she always aimed at the good, she was a kind and generous heart, a gift giver which was her main love language. She was a rock, she was strong and proud and determined. She loved animals and always put them and everyone before herself. She loved her two children Luna and Jason beyond anything in the world. She believed in her grand children's future. She lived in service to others.

She was fierce and gentle at the same time….

This was Deanna Shimada. R.I.P.
