3. Nielsen Magic Poster Collection Sale
--------------------------------------------
Message from Lupe Nielsen (US)
If
you don't know about Part ONE of the Norm Nielsen Magic
Poster Collection Auction, you must have been living under
a rock. Yes folks, in 48 hours, one of the largest, if not
the largest, collection of vintage magic posters in North
America will be sold at auction by America's top magic auction
house, Potter and Potter Auctions.
This
auction has a total of 354 lots with approximately 400 magic
posters. There will be something for everyone at bargain
prices- autographed David Copperfield posters, Henning's,
Lance Burton images - to the most high-end vintage rare
and one-of-a-kind pieces: Houdini's, Thurston's, Herrmann's,
Kellars and so much more. Norm Nielsen spent twenty five
years amassing an amazing collection of posters.
It
is not late to bid. There is a printed catalog, but don't
let this deter you. The pdf file for this catalog is available
for FREE. You can peruse through its contents, and should
be able to bid by internet, by phone, by mail or in person.
The auction will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at
10:00 am Central Daylight Time.
For
details please go to http://www.potterauctions.com
You
can download the free catalog here:
http://www.potterauctions.com/auctions/upcoming
To
see the many ways in which you can bid online go to: http://www.potterauctions.com/auctions/buying
It
is never too late to call them. Their phone number is: 773-472-1442
We
want to thank Gabe Fajuri and the wonderful staff at Potter
and Potter Auctions for their help and expertise in selling
our poster collection. This weekend will be historical,
and we hope these gems from our magical heritage will go
to good homes where they will be loved and cherished.

When
doing magic shows particularly for children, you would certainly
have to deal with disruptive behaviour some of the time.
Learn one leverage YOU have that you can use, as well as
four rules of thumb to follow, to stay in control all the
time. Check out http://kidsentertainerhub.com/poor-behaviour-and-what-to-do-about-it/
History of Magic: Cardini
http://magictricksforkids.org/history-of-magic-cardini/
Described
as "the greatest exponent of pure sleight of hand the
world has even known" in 1958 by the New England Magic
Society, Cardini dazzled and amazed audiences as he could
command a stage and whip up an act using only playing cards,
billiard balls, and cigarettes. Learn all about this top-class
magician at:

5. He Magic Word Podcast: Mike Robinson - Just Venting
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold Star
On
this week's podcast, we offer something from the allied
arts: ventriloquism. Mike Robinson is a hard working vent,
musician and magician performing mainly aboard cruise ships.
Because he is out to sea, he is not as well known among
magicians because he is rarely at magic conventions. But
one convention he does occasionally attend is the F.F.F.F.
in Batavia, New York. Just as jugglers are long remembered
at magic conventions, so is a ventriloquist enjoyed because
they are the variety act when put among magic acts.
I
spent some time talking with Mike (in his regular voice)
during this year's 4F convention and learned a lot about
ventriloquism. One thing that really stuck out to me is
that the voice is the skill, the puppet is the act. You
don't buy the puppet first, you learn the skill, write the
script, then buy the puppet to fit your act. There are so
many other things that Mike talks about that I found fascinating,
so much so that this one of my favorite podcasts.
You
can watch a video of Mike, see some photos, read the blog,
listen online, and download the MP3 file at:
http://themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/298-mike-robinson
We
also include a short product review of "Chapswitch"
by SansMinds near the end of this podcast. I hope you enjoy
the additional work I put into the podcasts by giving unbiased,
personal reviews of a few new products on the magic market
today. I am not supported nor sponsored by any dealer, creator,
or wholesaler. In particular, Murphy's Magic Supplies does
not sponsor nor contribute financially to the podcast.
I
am solely funded by listeners like you who enjoy and financial
contribute to help defray production costs. If you want

6. Festivals - Advertising - #404 - Kyle Peron
--------------------------------------------
Message by Kyle Peron (US)

Part
of being a success at working festivals is the ability to
build relationships with the client/s and having them really
see the value that you give to them. You want to be a solutions
provider and not just an entertainer. The more problems
you can solve for them, the more your perceived value grows
in their minds.
Part
of building this relationship is having them see large crowds
at your shows and many happy and smiling patrons. They want
their festival guests to be having a great time. A large
and happy crowd reacting favorably to what you are doing
gets back to the client really fast.
So
what are ways in which to ensure large crowds at your festival
shows? Well one is simply advertising your appearance at
the festival. Many entertainers make 2 assumptions when
it comes to festival advertising and promotion. They feel
like 1) it will be done entirely by the festival itself
and they will advertise your appearance there and 2) that
they are not allowed to help advertise their appearance.
Let
me talk a bit about both if I can. The first rule of thumb
is to never assume anything when it comes to working festivals.
This simply means always ask questions and always find out
the answers to questions you have.
Sometimes
festivals will indeed promote your appearance and will do
a fine job of doing so. Some will not advertise you much
at all and others may just state that a "magician"
or a "juggler" will be appearing but not state
your stage name etc.
This
is natural to happen as all festivals are different and
they handle advertising and promotion different as well.
One of the best things you can do for yourself is to offer
to help make their job easier by providing them with information,
photos, bios, web art, logos and anything you feel they
can utilize. By doing so, you are showing them you are a
professional, you are helping them tremendously and you
are ensuring a better chance that you will be advertised
properly.
If
you want to start to advertise yourself and your appearance
at the festival, it usually is never a problem. Just make
sure to touch base with your festival client ahead of time.
Ask them that you would like to help get the word out about
their festival and your appearance there and if that would
be OK with them.
It
is a win-win situation for them and so is usually never
a problem at all. Just always ask permission ahead of time
before you begin. In this way they know you are doing it,
can assist you with proper information and they get to see
the value you are giving to them.
One
of the best ways to advertise your appearance at the festival
is through a FREE method called online community calendars.
Many communities and municipalities have community based
websites. These websites are geared at letting people in
their communities know about important information.
As
a part of these community based websites, they usually will
have a calendar of events section. These calendars are set
up in such a way that anyone can freely post events and
community events to the calendar. It is usually done through
an online form page. Just enter in your information and
click the button and you are one.
The
beauty of this is that they are free of charge and can be
done quickly. There are a lot of them and you can find them
easily by doing Google searches for "Community Calendar
(town name)" or with a keyword such as "Calendar
of Events (township)". With a little Google searching,
you can find numerous online calendars to be able to place
your event information.
It
is a quick and easy way to get your information out there
to a vast audience who usually check the calendars for things
to do for their families.

I
have a new book out I would like you to know about all about
working the Festival market. If you would like additional
and detailed information on this topic, please see my book/ebook

thoughts. So if you have any thoughts on my articles or
