2. Vanish Magic Magazine Edition 25
--------------------------------------------
Message by Paul Romhany - Editor Vanish magazine

Edition 25 is the start of year five of Vanish - and this edition features The Ehrlich Brothers from Germany whose ticket sales outsell Madonna and Justin Beiber in Germany. The brothers are currently touring Europe with their illusion show performing in arenas that range from 10,000 to 40,000 people. This is an exclusive story with Vanish. They have also just had their own two-hour TV special aired in Germany.

We also have a very touching tribute by Ben Robinson on his dear friend Paul Daniels as well as Nick Lewin's farewell to Irene Larsen, Tihany and Tom Mullica.

Learn some great magic from platform, stage to close-up tricks. You'll learn and watch a cut-and-restored tie routine, a color change book for adults and how to produce a wad of money. There is also an ingenious book test by Louie Foxx.

Over 35 reviews of the latest magic tricks, books, DVDs and downloads.

Over 215 pages makes this an incredible issue and it's all free - view it on the new format which makes reading Vanish so much easier, as well as download direct from the magazine. Lots of new and exciting features.

4. The Magic Word Podcast: Alex Pandrea
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold Star

This week on The Magic Word we have a chat with one of the most interesting men in the world: Alex Pandrea. At the young age of 28, Alex has lived a lifetime of experiences including touring worldwide with his lecture, owning and operating a limo company in New York City, and being the CEO and owner of his own magic company. In this podcast Alex talks about his magic company, "Blue Crown" and his playing card company, "House of Playing Cards" that produces "NOC" cards, among others. In fact, he has so many beautiful designs that are in such demand, that he sold over 100,000 decks last year alone!

But one of the interesting things he talks about is that he no longer performs magic for payment. He performs for "real" people when the moment, need and desire is right. He creates moments in people's lives that turns simple mystery and sleight-of-hand into real, heart thumping, emotional experiences.

You can watch a video of Dan Sperry (yes, there is a relationship that is tied to the podcast…listen and learn), see some photos, receive Free video downloads, read the blog, get some discounts on upcoming conventions, listen to the podcast online, and download the MP3 files at: http://themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/283-alex-pandrea

And congratulations to the five winners of last week's contest for Greg Wilson products: John Shango, John Barr, Mike Kamlet, Sam Thielman, and Rob Dormehl. This week everyone will be a winner. Everyone who gives us their email address for Alex Pandrea's newsletter will be sent five free videos, compliments of Blue Crown. You can input your information at the bottom of the website on this week's blog.

We are within 40 "Likes" of reaching 1,000 friends on our Facebook page. If you haven't yet liked our page, you could push us over the top. Please visit: http://facebook.com/themagicwordpodcast Also, if you enjoy The Magic Word and can financially support our production efforts, then your help would be greatly appreciated…and rewarded, too! 5. Human Deck Of Cards Featured In April Linking Ring
--------------------------------------------
Message by Dennis Schick (US)

The April issue of The Linking Ring is in the mail, and is on the I.B.M. Website for members of the International Brotherhood of Magicians
.
The cover story features The Human Deck of Cards -- Canada's Huot and Lacroix (read the article to find out how to pronounce their names). Robin Dawes, also from Canada, interviews the two magicians, who perform individually as well as together.

There is an announcement that Dr. Steven Schlanger has taken over as Ring Reports Editor, following the ten-year tenure of T.J. Shimeld. He takes on the all-important responsibility of editing and bringing to us reports of actions of the I.B.M.'s biggest strengths -- its Rings.

Simone Marron brings us a personal experience review of the Blackpool Magic Festival in February. Guinness World Records says it is the largest magic convention in the world (3,850 people), not your everyday intimate convention. As is a tradition of The Linking Ring, featured is an In Memoriam to the best-known magician in the United Kingdom, Paul Daniels. Four of his closest friends -- Ian Adair, Trevor Louis, Paul Ray, and Vanni Pule' -- share some of their personal memories of Paul and his wife, Debbie.

Columnists in The Linking Ring are among the best in the business. This month, Kent Cummins devotes his Marketing Magic column to "Magic Marketing Materials," (business cards, fliers, brochures, etc.). Bev Bergeron's column, Cutting Up Jackpots, is entitled "Bill Siros and His Bonnie and Clyde Car." Scott Hood tells some first-hand experiences in being prepared, in his column, The Therapy Of Magic. Skip Way's Polishing The Rings column says "Come on down," using the creativity of game shows for ideas. Mike Powers turns over his The Card Corner column to Ed Oschmann, who gives us "Yours Truly."

Numismagic is the column written by Jean-Emmanuel Franzis, and this month he calls it "Standing Wild Coins." Andrew Woo's Simple Diversions is called "Light and Heavy Coin," and Jeff Prace's column, The Expert At The Tech Table, is written by Mathieu Bich and is called "iVolume." Chris Beason calls his Situationally Yours column "Espresso" this month. And Auto-Magic by Michael M. Breggar has the title "Counting on the 10-20" force.

This month's Parade is a 4F Canadian Gala Parade, from participants in the 4F Convention in Batavia, New York. It was compiled by Joan Caesar and edited by Malcolm Campbell. It includes ten effects (including two versions of one of them).

Hocus In Focus brings us reviews for a dozen new magic books, DVDs and tricks. And there are obituaries for twelve magicians in the Broken Wand, including celebrity magician Paul Daniels. We also have a special In Memoriam to Paul Daniels, which includes personal memories from four of his friends and several classic photos.

Put all these together and you have one hundred and seventy-two pages of Solid Magic -- one of the best reasons why the International Brotherhood of Magicians is the largest organization of the magical arts in the world!

7. Meet And Greet - #394 - Kyle Peron

Message by Kyle Peron

Ever have that awkwardness when you get to an event and realize that trying to find the main contact is like trying to find a needle in a haystack? Have you ever felt weird by showing up at the event and the client simply does not know who you are? Even though you may be wearing clothes that simple screams magician, the client still does not put 2 and 2 together. They may have seen your website or photos numerous times but at that very moment they suddenly develop amnesia.

How can you overcome these awkward meet and greet moments and how can we set up practices so that you are perceived as a professional the moment you get at an event? You want to make that first greeting with a client a good one and also make a favorable first impression with them.

How can you do this and do it well? What can you say and do to ensure it goes over well? You do not want to waste any of your set up time and you do not want to take time away from the client's duties. You want to keep it short and sweet and professional. You want just enough for both parties to know who each other is and let them know you are there. You can then get the quick information you need to begin set up and have the client pleased that you have things under control.

Often times the client at the event may not even be there or they may be involved in other things. In this case, you need to ask ahead of time about who you should ask for upon arrival. In my talks with the client (as well as my agreements and contracts I send out) it always states what time I am arriving and who I should ask for upon arriving at the event. I cannot always assume it is going to be the client. It could very well be someone else. Asking ahead of time saves me a lot of time and frustrations.

I also ask for the contact and client's cell phones as part of my confirmation agreement with the client. This way I can touch base with the client as I approach the venue. By doing it this way, they know I am about to arrive and can prepare accordingly.

When you arrive at the event venue, there are certain rules I always try to abide by:

- I never will walk into a house or private residence even if the door is open and others are walking in. I will always knock or ring the doorbell. This is just a common courtesy.

- Do not assume that the person answering at an event is the client. In many times they may not be and may just be trying to assist you.

- If you are doing a family show, do not assume that the spouse will know who you are or that you are coming. In many cases it is one spouse who usually handles all the arrangements.

- When someone does approach you, I will always simply state who I am and that I am the entertainer and politely ask for the contact that I am supposed to touch base with.

- When meeting the client, a nice smile and a firm handshake can really say many things before any words are ever spoken. It is just a polite gesture to show you are a professional.

- After the handshake I will simply state who I am and that I am their entertainer for the event and excited to be there. I will ask them to show me to the stage or performance area and make sure I have what I need. This is my moment to take a quick sweep to ensure I have everything from them. If I need something, I can take this moment to ask for it while I start to bring things in and set up. I like to do this now because once the client leaves, it is often hard to get them back to you. You also do not want to have to keep bothering them. This is my time to make sure I have what I need and then ask the client if they have any questions for me.

- If everything is good at this point, I can thank them again for having me and state everything looks great and that I will start to bring things in to set up. I will ask if bringing stuff in a certain way is still ok with them. This is always planned out ahead of time, but I always like to ask again just to be sure. Once again it is about greeting them and making that first positive impression.

These are very simple concepts but ones that really can make a lasting impression if followed. People often forget that the first impression you make can really set the tone of the event going forward. I never consider my job starting when the curtains open. Part of being a professional is all the little things many of us take for granted. Meeting and greeting your client appropriately is an important skill to learn to do well.

As always, I encourage you the readers to let me know your thoughts. So if you have any thoughts on my articles or suggestions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me directly at magic4u02@aol.com. I would love to hear from you.

Support Resolution - HR642

In The House Of Representatives March 14, 2016 Mr. Sessions (for himself, Mr. Stivers, Mr. Meehan, Mr. Donovan, Mr. Dent, Mr. Simpson, and Mr. Buck) submitted a resolution; which was referred to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform

The resolution includes a long list of merits of magic, "an art form with the unique power and potential to impact the lives of all people" that "enables people to experience the impossible" and "is used to inspire and bring wonder and happiness to others."

In order for this to go forward in the House and on to the Senate, you need to write to your representative to vote to support it. Here is how out can do this on line. Go to: hr642.com. Sign the petition and follow the links to your representative. Add a few words asking for passage so that the art of magic can continue to brighten the lives of our fellow Americans.

It takes but a moment.

Message by Magicana

A chance to Overindulge
Dani DaOrtiz, Christian Engblom and Miguel Angel Gea are The Fat Brothers

They are visiting from Europe Saturday, April 23 and giving a special one-night-only performance in Toronto.

The Fat Brothers are recognized around the world as truly innovative performers. Magic from Europe has a very distinctive flavour to it. On top of that, their zany off-the-wall humour is completely unpredictable.

This is an evening of intimate sleight-of-hand like you've never seen it before.

We will be at the Wychwood Theatre (St. Clair & Christie) on Saturday, April 23 at 8:00 PM.

As of this moment, half of the tickets to their show are sold out. Space is limited, so if you would like to attend this special performance, we recommend reserving your seats soon. Tickets are available at magicana.com with discounts available for groups of five or more.
