Wellington Magic Convention - October 24th - 26th, 2015

Competition Entry Now Open

Competition Entries Close June 23rd, 2015

Places in the competitions are strictly limited!
Maximum of eight entrants in each of the two categories


1. Close-up Magic Competition
  • Junior acts to be 3 - 6 minutes
  • Senior acts to be 5 - 8 minutes
2. Parlor Magic Competition
  • Junior acts to be 3 - 6 minutes
  • Senior acts to be 5 - 8 minutes

Junior acts refer to performers 15 years old or younger. The times referenced refer to the minimum and maximum time allowed for each act. Acts that are not within these times may be penalised.

Special Awards

The judges may, at their own discretion, grant the following awards:

  • Best Manipulation
  • Best Comedy Performance
  • Best Mental Effect
  • Best Magical Assistant
  • Best Effect of the Convention
  • Best Card Routine


How to Enter:

1. Register for the Convention
Only paid registrants can enter the competitions. You can REGISTER HERE

2. Fill out a competition entry form
  • Fill out an online form HERE, OR
  • Print or download a form HERE
3. Send supporting evidence
To ensure entries of are of a high standard, entrants must either:
  1. Provide a video of themselves performing magic that would be appropriate for the competition category

    2. OR

  2. Provide a letter of recommendation from two or more of the following referees:
    1. Grand Master of Magic
    2. President of a recognised Magic Club
    3. Wellington Magic Convention Committee Member.

Note: Providing a video and/or letters of recommendation does not guarantee entry and only acts of a high standard will be selected to compete.


Where do I send my entry?
  • Scanned forms and links to YouTube videos can be sent to comps@wellingtonmagic.co.nz
  • Physical forms and video media can be sent to: Wellington Magic Convention, 20 Middleton Road, Johnsonville, Wellington, 6037.

Important Dates
  • Entries close Tue 23rd of June, 2015
  • A list of successful entrants will be publicly announced on Tue 30th of June, 2015
  • Applicants will be contacted on 1st Oct, 2015, and will be expect to provide details about their competition act (E.g. effects, routines, requirements, whether helpers needed).

HOW TO ENTER:
All you have to do is register before October 24th, 2015.
  • Register before 10th of November, 2014 and get 3 entries into the draw
  • Register before 1st of May, 2015 and get 2 entries into the draw
  • Register before 24th of October, 2015 and get 1 entry into the draw

The earlier you register, the more entries you get!

REFER A FRIEND FOR EXTRA ENTRIES:
If you have registered and refer a friend, you can gain an EXTRA TWO ENTRIES per person that you refer.

For every person that writes down your name as the referee, during registration, you will get an additional 2 entries!
