Pavel
(Opolany, Prague, Czechoslovakia: 4 Apr 1945- ) Stage name of Pavel Lubomir "Paul" Pomezny. Learned at age 9. Debut at age 10. Foreign trade specialist at U of Prague. Semi-pro general magic & inventor. 1966 Concours Magicus (Paris) for invention. Moved to Switzerland in 1969 when he became full-time pro. Marketed his original tricks as "Pavel's Topmagic" since 1971. Dealer (Studio de Magie) in Geneva 1977-present. 1982 FISM 1st prize for invention (his Walking Knot). Many lecture tours since 1967 in USA (8 times), Germany, Portugal, France, England, & Japan.

Invented some 900 effects, including Walking Knot (1982).

Wrote as "Pavel" Wie entwickle ich einen neuen Trick? (1964, with Mila Trinka); Zwei Dutzend und Eine Neuheit (1965, with Josef Manas); La Magie de Pavel (1969), English ed by Peter Warlock as The Magic of Pavel (1971); 10 Nouveaux Tours de Pavel (6 vols, 1969-77), Pavel's 15 Micro Tricks (1971), plus several lecture notes in German, French, & English. Articles in most major journals since 1966, including Swami. 3 videos. Many TV bits, including the Ed Sullivan show in 1968.
