Message from Peter Pinner M.I.M.C.
I am sorry to be the bearer of the sad news that Jack Mayes passed away at about 10.p.m. last evening.

The news was quite a shock as Jack had just returned from a holiday in Spain and had seemed in fine form. It is thought that he sustained another heart attack whilst he was watching television.

Jack was well known in the U.K. as 'Hairy Harry and The Almost Famous Jack Mayes'.

He was a member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star, and a member of The Water Rats. A very keen golfer, Jack was the current President of the V.G.S.

Last month at The Zodiac Magical Society's Diamond Jubilee Dinner, he received a certificate to mark his fifty years of membership.

In the 1980s he organised a series of one day magic conventions called 'Spring Magic', and raised many thousands of pounds for TMC's building fund. TMC recognised this by making Jack a life member.

Jack was very much looking forward to attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace this summer.

I have a very special reason to be grateful to have had Jack as a friend, as forty years ago this October he arranged a blind date for me at TMC banquet.

June and I have now been happily married for 38 years and we were delighted to have Jack as Godfather to one of our sons.

He was a fun person and a doting grandfather, and someone who will be missed by many people in many ways.

To his son Robert, daughter in law Paula and grandson George, we send our condolences.

Peter Pinner
