Three-year contract at Harrah's in Las Vegas ------------------------------------ Message from Shawn Dion Did you all hear over there that Mac King has recently signed a three-year contract at Harrah's in Las Vegas? He will be performing his one-man show twice daily at 1pm and 3pm dark on Sunday and Monday. Tickets are only US$9.95. ------------------------------------- 6. The one you must see in 2000 ------------------------------------- Message from Tony Griffith I notice that Daryl will be lecturing in New Zealand later in the year on what will be his final lecture of his world tour. I have just completed organising the British Isles section of his Millennium tour. Altogether he will be presenting 27 lectures throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. These will be mainly back-to-back. Having looked at Daryl's whole schedule I find it staggering. He must be superman to be able to keep up such a schedule. I have told him that he has to keep on the move until he gets the lecture right. As he says, he will have it polished by the time he visits NZ. Seriously, if any of you Kiwis have never seen Daryl, perform or lecture make his lecture THE ONE YOU MUST SEE IN 2000. In my opinion he is head and shoulders above any other performer in the type of magic he specialises in. ------------------------------------- 7. Tribute to Jim Reilly ------------------------------------- Message from Tony Griffith May I pay this tribute to Jim Reilly on the magnificent work he has done over the years in producing MAGICANA. It is a great magazine, full of very interesting articles. Jim has kept the flag flying for New Zealand and you should all be very proud of his contribution to magic in your country. My only regret, about the magazine is that there appears to be so few contributions from New Zealanders????????????? I wonder why?????? To Michael Woolf, my best wishes in his new venture. I wish him every success. Judith and I have just returned from a most enjoyable lecture tour of N and S Carolina and northern Florida. I lectured in Wilmington, Charleston, Jacksonville, Fort Walton Beach, Melbourne Beach, Lakeside, and Orlando. We had a great time, magnificent weather (75 - 80F) and travelled some 2500 miles. Hope to be back performing and lecturing at The Magic Castle later in the year. ------------------------------------- 8. UK £3.80 or so a gallon for petrol ------------------------------------- Message from Tony Griffith Reference your cost of petrol. When I was in the USA a couple of weeks ago everyone was complaining about the cost of petrol. It is roughly $1.50 in the US.......that is just under a £1 sterling in the UK. Over here in the UK we pay a staggering £3.80 or so a gallon for petrol.......That is not a misprint...The government takes most of it in tax. ------------------------------------- 9. It is great to hear news from Kiwi-land! ------------------------------------- Message from Lupe Nielsen Just a little note to say "hello" and to thank you for sending us the MagicNZ e-zine! It is great to hear news from Kiwi-land! Norm and I are now getting ready for two magic conventions in April and May: the Magic Collector's Convention in Baltimore, and the Battle of the Magicians in Canton, Ohio. In June we will be going to Mirakels Amsterdam in Holland, and later that month Norm will start a two-month engagement at a new nightclub in Mexico City. We will be sure to keep you posted. ------------------------------------- 10. Support for Magiciana" - New Zealand's magic magazine ------------------------------------- Message from Stan Goudge You will have received information from both Jim Reilly and Michael Woolf, that after 36 year' with "Magicana", Jim Reilly has laid down his editorial pen and handed it on to Michael Woolf. Like us, you will be pleased that this vital link of communication between New Zealand magicians is to continue its bi-monthly format, and will wish to support the new editor. We owe a great debt of gratitude to Jim Reilly for his untiring and unstinting work for so long. A fitting tribute to him was made by Cliff Thomas in the last "Magicana", the April - May 2000 edition. You may care to write to Jim with your own letter of appreciation. What is not generally known is that "Magicana" was published at personal cost to Jim Reilly, and while accounts have never been released, it is clear that Jim has personally subsidised the magazine. It has not been a money making venture. Michael Woolf will then require assistance if the magazine is to survive. Your club and your members can help in the following ways: 1. Take out a Club subscription for "Magicana" at $40.00 per annum. ----------------------------------------- (Subscription to New Zealand's Magicana Magazine - the annual sub at $40 NZ for six large issues (US = $US30; Aust. $A40; Can. $C40; U.K£20 to cover mail costs. Box 38046 Wellington Mail Centre Wellington New Zealand Phone: +64 4 587 0045 Fax: +64 4 587 0042 Mobile: 025 577774 e-mail: michaelw@ihug.co.nz) - The Editor - The Magic One ------------------------------------------ 2. Encourage each member and associate to take out their own personal subscription at $40.00 per annum. 3. Submit news, gossip, opinions, letters, and especially Club News to the editor. 4. Encourage members to submit articles, tricks, magic effects and routines. 5. Take out a Club advertisement (Inside front cover) at $20.00 per annum. 6. Send a donation to Michael Woolf to assist with Start Up Capital. The Brotherhood of Auckland Magicians Inc has sent the Editor $500 towards start up expenses - and we challenge every other magic club in New Zealand to do the same, or similar. The B.A.M. hopes this letter will stimulate your society to discuss the best way that you can help New Zealand's magic magazine survive, and continue to be published in the new millennium. ------------------------------------- 11. New Zealand Magicians' Convention 2001 ------------------------------------- Message from Brennan Sharp If you've visited our web site recently, you'll notice it's not really changed since it first appeared. That's certainly no indication of what's been going on in the planning. Subject to us working out some more details, the site is expected to be fully operational around mid - year. At that time, we'll be publishing most of the details you'll need to apply for registration forms, lectures, competitions etc. Thanks to all the people who have already registered interest and also to the people who've submitted contact information for possible lectures. There have been some good suggestions and they're being used. If you want to be added to the mailing list for information, or if you have some contacts for lecturers, please don't hesitate to get in touch - the more the merrier. The convention committee would also like to extend special thanks to Alan Watson for his assistance in bringing in lecturer contacts by extending our Internet presence through this e-zine and a link to our site from the MagicNZ site. We have received a good number of responses to our request through the e-zine to date. To contact the Convention Secretary, please send e-mail to brennanzl@xtra.co.nz, or visit our web site at: http://mysite.xtra.co.nz/~NZMagic2001 ------------------------------------- 13. News Items ------------------------------------- If you have any news items that you feel the majority of our subscribers would be interested in please e-mail me so I can include them in the next e-zine. The magician who e-mails me a particular news item FIRST will receive full credit at the top of that item. If the news is of major importance I will send them out immediately as a Newsflash. ------------------------------------- 14.
