4. Siegfried & Roy Collectors Box Set
--------------------------------------------
Message by Paul Stone (USA)
Only
175 available worldwide!
Don't
miss this chance to own the Limited Edition Siegfried &
Roy Collectors Box Set.
In
2008 I produced 'A Tribute to Siegfried & Roy at the
London Palladium'. It was an occasion that anyone present
will never forget.
Siegfried
& Roy sat in the Royal Box, Dame Shirley Bassey sat
in the box above and the packed audience included numerous
show business celebrities. On stage was a 14 piece orchestra
together with ten of the world's greatest magic acts.
Video
tributes were paid by Sir Anthony Hopkins, Cher and Steve
Wynn.
After
the show finale Siegfried & Roy walked out on stage
and received a ten-minute standing ovation from the sold-out
audience of 2,500 Siegfried & Roy fans gathered from
around the world.
It
was very emotional for the whole audience and in particular
for Siegfried & Roy. In Siegfried's own words, it was
'one of the highlights of my life'.
-------------------------------------------------------
Limited Edition
Siegfried & Roy Collectors Box Set
This
unique Collectors Box Set contains footage from the show
as broadcast all over Europe, including individual movie
clips of each act, as well the full acts of the Great Tomsoni
& Co - the last time they ever worked with a live orchestra
- and Norm Nielsen, in his final ever stage performance.
Also
included on the custom engraved gold key flash drive are
unique video clips not only of the show but also priceless
interviews with Siegfried & Roy, Johnny Thompson, Norm
Nielsen and Jeff Hobson before and after the show, as well
as over 250 never before released photographs from the show
rehearsals, the show itself, the after show VIP party and
also as a bonus the Royal Gala Dinner Tribute to Siegfried
& Roy at the Landmark Hotel in London in the presence
of HRH Princess Michael.
But
that's not all! The show memorabilia includes two different
show posters, flyers, the superb show program and magazine
articles, all in full color, rare letters from Siegfried
& Roy and from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber the owner of
the London Palladium, reviews, and other Siegfried &
Roy Collectors' items.
Remember,
there will only ever be 175 of these special Box Sets available
worldwide, each with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
At a cost of just $297 plus s&h, this is a must-have
for all serious collectors and for anyone who had a ticket
for this very special show.
When
I started working on this project over a year ago, I never
for one moment imagined that we would sadly lose both Siegfried
& Roy in such a short space of time.
This
is a beautifully boxed Limited-Edition Collectors Set celebrating
two magic legends by some of the most talented artists from
around the world. Once sold out, they will never be reproduced.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a piece
of magic history.

5. A Perfect 10! - John Carey #111

I've
always enjoyed performing coins across with the multitude
of methods in the literature. This method has the advantage
of taking place pretty much all in the spectators hands.
You will require a small coin purse that contains ten small
coins. I use British 10p's, but Quarters are great too.
Bring
out the purse and shake it. Hand it to a spectator and asked
them to tip out the coins onto the table. Next ask your
helper to count the coins revealing ten. Ask her to push
three coins towards you. Pick up one of your coins and drop
it into your left hand which then closes. Then pick up the
remaining two coins and execute a simple clink pass, retaining
the two coins in right hand finger palm. The right hand
picks up the seven tabled coins and places them into the
spectators hand, secretly adding the two finger palmed coins.
Close their hand into a fist.
"One
at a time I will attempt to make my three coins teleport
from my hand to yours. That's one. If I wave this coin over
my hand another has gone. Finally watch this last coin simply
fade away."
Suiting
actions to the above words, I wave my right hand over my
left and state a coin has gone. Then I reach into my left
fist through the thumb hole and pull a coin out. I wave
it over my left hand which crumples and then opens revealing
a complete vanish. Finally I execute a fake transfer into
my left hand, make the moment and then open that hand to
reveal the final coin has vanished too.
Ask
your helper to open their hand. Now the bold but easy part:
Your right hand reaches down to their stash of coins and
fakes taking a coin from it. In reality it just brings its
finger palmed coin into view and drops it into the left
hand, counting "one". Genuinely take off a coin
and drop that on top of the coin in your left hand, counting
"two". Then let your helper finish the count of
the coins concluding the effect and ending with a perfect
10!

6. David Copperfield Sets March Return At MGM Grand
--------------------------------------------
Article forward by Peter Phillips (US)
Las
Vegas Review-Journal
David
Copperfield's latest reappearing act is ready for the stage.
The legendary magician's march back to MGM Grand is March
21.
In
a phone chat Wednesday, Copperfield chuckled and offered
his two-word quote about coming back: "So excited."
Copperfield
had performed in October and November, when public gatherings
of 250 were allowed. He was dark when the statewide "pause"
was instituted in late November.
The
restrictions are again being relaxed for 50 percent capacity
or 250 people, whichever is less, on March 15.
Copperfield's
eponymous theater seats a little less than 800. He's set
to perform at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Sundays through Fridays.
Elsewhere
in MGM Resorts International's reopening schematic, "Australian
Bee Gees Show" is returning to Thunderland Showroom
at Excalibur on March 15. The Bee Gees tribute act joins
Thunder From Down Under in toggling in that venue.
Terry
Fator is reviving his ventriloquial production at the former
Zumanity Theater at New York-New York on March 18. "Who's
The Dummy Now" runs for a limited engagement 7:30 p.m.
Thursdays through Sundays; 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
Fator
will hold forth in a theater where Cirque du Soleil (among
others) has said it wants to return production, after "Zumanity"
shut down in November.

8. The Inside Story - Chapter 4 - Mark Wilson
-------------------------------------
From the Magic New Zealand ezine archives
.
Written by the late Mark Wilson (US)
Here's
something that happened the other day. I was looking through
some old boxes in the warehouse and came across my Daily
Reminder book for 1949. It brought back a lot of memories.
At
the time I was 20 years old, a full-time student at Southern
Methodist University, majoring in Advertising and Marketing.
In the book, I had listed all of my performances in 1949.
I did more than 500 shows, plus 130 more at the Texas State
Fair, for a total of some 650 shows that year.
The
shows were part of a public relations program I had created
for Morton's Foods, then the largest potato chip company
in North Texas. If you had more than 25 people scheduled
for your affair, as the Morton Magician, I would present
the show at no cost to you. And, of course, the magic words
to make all the tricks work were "Morton's Potato Chips".
I
was paid $5 per show, supplied all the magic and drove my
car to every show. It was really not so bad. I gained great
experience performing under all conditions - birthday parties,
church affairs, in theaters, at grocery stores, even in
correctional facilities and funeral homes
all kinds
of venues, large and small.
As
I glanced over the Reminder book, I happened to look at
Tuesday, July 12, 1949. I noticed something I'd remembered
but didn't know I had recorded in the book, a show at the
"Silver Spur," a country and western night club,
at 10 pm that night. This was very late for a
show on a weekday evening in Dallas back then. I was to
report to a Mr. Rubin, the club owner. The show was a benefit
for the family of a Dallas Police officer who'd been killed
in the line of duty. As I recall, everything went quite
well. The owner was very impressed.
As
the years passed, I found that everyone in show business
in Dallas knew Mr. Rubin. He owned several other clubs over
the years. I met him again many times before we moved to
Los Angeles in 1960, after I finally sold the Magic Land
of Allakazam series to Kellogg's. Mr. Rubin even wanted
to be my manager. I also recall he continued to have a very
good relationship with the Dallas Police Department.
I
vividly remember that, in 1963, I was in my office in Los
Angeles when I - along with the rest of the world - first
heard that John Kennedy had been shot and that it had happened
in Dallas. In Dallas! I called my parents. My mother and
father had just seen Kennedy in the motorcade a few minutes
before he was shot and taken to Parkland Hospital. I had
driven by that Emergency Room entrance many times and had
done shows at Parkland, especially in their children's facility,
located across the way.
Then,
we were told that the shots were fatal. Many of the regularly-scheduled
television and radio shows and public events were canceled.
We listened to the radio constantly. Here comes
something new, looks like they caught the man who fired
the shots. The police arrested him in the Texas Theater.
The Texas Theater! When I was a teenage boy, I used to walk
the four blocks from where we lived to see the latest movie
at the Texas, usually once or twice a week. I'll bet I had
occupied the very seat where they caught him. Now he was
in jail only a few blocks from the Triple Underpass and
the Book Depository Building.
Nani
and I couldn't believe all this was happening
and
all in Dallas, our city, and to people we knew.
It
was then that the most unbelievable thing of all happened.
The accused man, Lee Harvey Oswald, was shot and killed.
Completely unexpected by everyone; the police, the guards,
the world, and - of course - Nani and me. It was only a
few hours later that we heard who was the shooter.
When
I met him at the Silver Spur that night half a century ago,
I discovered that I had made a mistake when I wrote his
name in the Daily Reminder. His name was not Rubin. His
correct name was Ruby. Jack Ruby.

9. The Orchante Saga - Beginnings
-------------------------------------
Written by the late Tommy Orchard (The Amazing Orchante)
Trevor
King - Q S M: the legend continues
Back
in the 1950 days, Trevor was involved with several hypnotists
- there was one in particular, who went by the stage name
of Henri Roland. His real name was Jack Doyle - an ex Auckland
waterside worker. He became not only Trevor's mate, but
also - One Of His Greatest 'Stars'. Every week in those
early days, Trevor would go to the library in Christchurch,
scrutinizing the entertainment section of both New Zealand
and Australian newspapers, looking at the various artists
and shows - taking note of the style of publicity/advertising.
Trevor saw Jack Doyle's publicity in the 'Rotorua Post'
- his advertising was shocking but he had got an excellent
write - up.
Trevor
decided to write to him about a South Island tour
Jack was most interested so Trevor arranged to meet him
at the Regent Hotel, Wellington. According to Trevor (from
here on in, I'll call Jack by his Stage name, 'Henri'),
'Henri', although a very good hypnotist (around Auckland)
- never had the money to buy him a jug of beer, nor had
he ever owned an overcoat so Trevor loaned him, what was
in those days £10, to get a coat - due to the bad
weather. £10 in the
Fifties would have bought you a very nice coat indeed! Trevor
left Amalgamated Theatres to take 'Henri Roland' on tour.
They
planned a South Island tour - Trevor had a 1936 or 1942,
not sure which - Ford Coupe, and started the 'Advance' for
the entire South Island by driving down to Invercargill,
with a hundred pounds in his pocket - and got great help
from 'The Master' (The late) Frank Stapp (who became their
Southland agent). They carried a small PA system and a square
of carpet to dress the stage. Not only did Trevor 'play'
the part of Host/Assistant on stage with Henri - he was
also the Manager and Publicity man! It was a big challenge
to both Henri and Trevor to do that tour, "We spent
every penny that we had in our pockets" Trevor says,
and that YES, his (Trevor's) publicity WAS good - also had
(3) 24 - sheeter hoardings on hire ex railways dept. - Radio/Newspapers,
'Window Sleep' in a Dept. Store - It Was A Great Success!
They played 4 nights at Invercargill and 6 nights at Dunedin.
All shows in both Cities were completely sold out! Timaru,
Oamaru, Queenstown - packed out! Everywhere, The 'House
Full' sign went up!
Trevor
had originally planned to tour the South Island with Henri
for three-months but so successful were the shows, Trevor
stayed with Henri and toured his hypnotism show for 12 months!
The box office takings were around £10,000 (pounds,
not dollars), only charging 6 /- (shillings) admission -
a huge sum of money in the Fifties - Trevor and Jack had
a 50/50 share in the gross takings. As Trevor said to me,
"Remember Tommy, in those days there was no
television, no traffic, Hotels in New Zealand closed at
6pm, nobody could get into movies, cinemas sold-out - we
had it all on the - 'Welcome Mat'. I bought my Family Home
from my share of the profits!"
One
evening during the tour, Trevor received a phone-call from
Jack Shannon (they were very good mates), who was at the
Opera House in New Plymouth with 'Franquin' (who was, without
a doubt: The World's Greatest, Most Successful Hypnotist,
Of All Time!). Jack Shannon was the best publicity man Show
business has ever seen - he taught the American Advertising
'Big Boys' a thing or two, when The 'Fabulous Franquin'
Show, Stormed into the USA! They learnt more 'tricks' and
publicity stunts from Jack in one day - than in a lifetime
of Adverts!
Nobody
but nobody, in the world, was better than Jack Shannon -
When It Came To Publicity! He could sell ice to Eskimos
to build igloos! Jack said to Trevor, " I know that
you are with 'Doyle' (Henri) and things are going very well
for you - there IS room in New Zealand for two hypnotists
- I'm not too happy with the wages I'm getting - do you
want me to join you as your publicity man"?
Trevor
was thrilled to get his offer. "Tommy, I worked my
bloody arse off" Trevor said, "I could not find
an Advance Manager or Tour Manager to travel with Henri
I had to do the entire job - Advance, etc. and return to
be with Henri to assist on stage! So that night, in my hotel
room in Queenstown, I sat down to confer with Henri about
Jack Shannon's offer but Henri said NO! He hated the idea
of having to pay 'Shannon' £350 a week, plus expenses,
plus Hotel account so I had to cancel Jack Shannon's offer
- and carry on doing two jobs, three - if you count Assisting
on Stage!"
