4. Broken Wand - Bev Bergeron

Message posted in Facebook by Paul Green (US)
Bev
Bergeron has taken his final bow!
Bev
was known as Rebo, the Clown. He appeared on the iconic
television show, The Magic Land of Alakazam. This show was
the first national show televised. Along with Magician Mark
Wilson and his wife Nani Darnell, Rebo performed weekly.
This show fed my young imagination and formed the base of
my magical journey.
He
was also an accomplished magician, out of make-up. His great
experience and innovative performances, again, fueled my
own development as a magician.
Aloha
and rest well!

6. Stuart MacDonald On The Magic Word Podcast
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold Star
I
have been a bit delinquent in notifying this ezine about
the weekly episodes of The Magic Word Podcast. But I've
been posting episodes since 2011 so by now you should know
that these broadcasts are released every Thursday at 9:00
a.m. Central Time in the U.S. (GMT-5) and we feature conversations
with some of the most interesting people in our community
not
all, but some.
This
week we have a wonderful chat with Stuart Macdonald who
is a multiple winner of many magic convention contests around
the world. He competed at FISM and even fooled Penn &
Teller on their television show. His resume includes performances
on the college circuit, producing haunted houses for many
years, being a keynote speaker for corporate events, and
he now has a new character built just for these times of
quarantine, Richard Preston, a magician who was "thawed
out from cryogenics" in time to entertain the world
when we most need him!
You
can listen to this week's episode wherever you get your
podcasts. But for more information, videos, photos and to
enter the contest (yes, a contest), then please visit: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/588-stuart-macdonald
If
you haven't yet subscribed to the weekly PodLetter, then
be sure to do that because we have even more contests coming
in future weeks that are open to magicians all over the
world. You can subscribe on the website when you click on
the link above. And be sure to join us each week on Facebook
or YouTube for our Thursday night virtual happy hour. Each
week we have different guests join us for fun conversations.
It beats drinking alone!

7. Cross Prophecy Force - John Carey #103
-------------------------------------------
Message by John Carey (UK)

Here's
an interesting combination of Bill Simons fabulous Prophecy
Move combined with Max Holden's equally great Cross Cut
Card Force, to force two cards.
Let's
say the bottom card of the deck is the Six of Diamonds and
the top card is the Three of Clubs. Execute a false shuffle
retaining their position and then table the face-down deck.
Take
a business card and ask a spectator to stab it in the centre
of the deck, but leave it protruding. The palm-down right
hand lifts off all the cards above the business card and
casually places this packet into the left hand as you ask
your helper to remove the business card. Pick up the tabled
packet and place it on top of the left hand's packet offset
at an angle. Remove the right hand and shift the focus by
commenting on how the deck was shuffled and they stabbed
the business card into the deck at a random point.
The
palm-down right hand lifts off the upper portion and raises
to show the face card - Six of Diamonds, then lowers as
the left hand raises and pushes off its top card and shows
it - Three of Clubs to another person. Lower the left hand
below the right and dribble the right hands cards on
top of the lefts and square up. A useful and deceptive tool...

Message by Greg Britt- Elgregoe (New Zealand)
Bill
( William ) Scott of Rangiora passed away December 1st at
93 years old.
Bill
has been a lifetime lover of magic and has supported many
lectures and conventions both in New Zealand and overseas
through the years.
He
attended a number of USA conventions with myself and Tony
Wilson.
He
was also a member of the famous Kokatahi Band where he played
the piano accordion becoming well known on the West Coast.
His
favorite routine was with Rocky the raccoon which he had
developed quite a presentation. He also loved to play a
gag, always asking me if I was needing a helping hand and
then have a small plastic hand pop out and wiggle around
in his hand.
His performances were mainly charitable and to help folk
out.
A
member of the IBM for many years who loved receiving and
reading his Linking Ring Magazine. He was a friendly, gentle,
caring and kind man who would do anything to help you, he
always attended our shopping mall shows, arriving early
for the best seat.
A
big smile and compliments always followed the show over
a coffee and magic chat.
We will miss you Bill, Rest in peace my friend.

9. The Orchante Saga - Beginnings
-------------------------------------
Written by the late Tommy Orchard (The Amazing Orchante)
Another
'Blast From The Past'
During
the late Sixties, a Maori singer known as - 'Prince' Tui
Teka, appeared on the scene, and became a sort of National
'Superstar Icon' in New Zealand. Many people thought that
he was a 'Real Maori Prince' but in reality, it was just
a fanciful title that he gave himself. Not only was he a
singer but he also played various musical instruments as
well, notably the trumpet. He had a big voice with a big
personality to match - in fact he was a big man in every
sense the word; I don't know what he weighed, but it must
have been in excess of 20 stone (127/128 kilos), reminiscent
of another Maori singer from the Sixties, the late Rama
White - she was a wonderful woman with a great sense of
humour, who was often advertised as a -' Ton Of Fun'!
Tui
used to drive around in a station wagon - I think it was
a 'Chevy' Impala and, where most people would have ' Go-Faster'
stripes/decals, Tui had wood paneling that had been beautifully
decorated with artistic Maori carvings - rather ostentatious
but it did help to create the impression that he was a -
'Real Prince'! That's Showbiz! It was quite a sight to see
him get into the car - you could actually see the vehicle
lean over, the springs groaning as they took his
magnitudinous weight! How he drove it I'll never know, most
of the steering wheel disappeared within the folds of his
gargantuan stomach!
The
last time we saw Prince Tui Teka was at the Parramatta League's
club (which was one of our regular club bookings), in Sydney
Australia, I'm guessing but probably around 1980/81. He
was performing as a guest artist with another New Zealand
Icon - who just happens to be a very close friend of ours,
the famous, Eddie Low - 'The Voice In A Million'! There
were two episodes from that wonderful night that have been
'burnt into my memory banks' forever! The first was when
Eddie and Tui - each standing on opposite sides of the stage,
played, on their trumpets, a stirring rendition of Nini
Rosso's 'Il Silenzio', which brought the house down!
The
other episode was when Eddie sang a song that he had written
himself titled - 'Songs From Home' which had every New Zealander
in the place howling their eyes out, myself included, for
the second time - the first being when Eddie, with his guitar,
popped around to our home in Sydney one afternoon, and sang
it for us, wanting to know what we thought of it. The tears
running down my cheeks told him all that he needed to know.
He headed off to a studio and commercially recorded it!
I really am a 'Softie' at heart! Incidentally, the Secretary
manager of the Parramatta League's club in Sydney was a
chap called Bruce Cameron, who used to manage the Tainui
Motor Hotel in Whakatane, which is where my wife Veronica
was brought up and, where we lived prior to leaving for
'Aussie'. It sure is a small world!
I
cannot vouch for the authenticity of this but - 'Where There's
Smoke, There's Fire'! 'Prince' Tui, whilst on tour somewhere,
in the 'Chevy', which was packed with hungry members of
his band etc. pulled into a drive-in 'McDonald's'- up to
that little mesh covered grill that you talk into. Winding
the window down Tui says -" I'll have Five Big Macs,
Three chickens - Five large chips and -Three large Cokes!"
" Will that be all sir?" queried the tinny voice
that issued from the speaker - that probably belonged to
some snotty, pimply-faced fifteen year-old. Turning around
Tui says, "And What Do You Fella's Want!!! 'Prince'
Tui Teka died in 1985, at the age of - 48! 'Nuff said!
Tui
Teka is buried at Tokomaru Bay, which is on the East coast
- around 80 odd km N.E. of Gisborne, h/way 35, where the
ruins of a frozen - meat plant and port installations are
witness to better times. A Maori meeting- house, built in
1934, with some beautiful Maori carvings on display, is
also there. Whilst on holiday recently, Jon Zealando stopped
off at Tokomaru Bay and photographed Prince Tui Teka's grave.
Veronica, who remembers Tui well from those early days,
wanted to know if Jon had to use a - 'Wide Angled Lens'!
She can be so SICK at times!
It's
not entirely her fault. After 'hanging' around me more or
less 24 Hours a day, for the best part of 31Years and, being
bombarded with my wicked sense of humour, something had
to rub off!!!
