4. The Lance Burton Teen Seminar
--------------------------------------------
Message by Lynn Miner

This year, the Lance Burton Teen Seminar (LBTS) will be held from the evening of Monday, July 8 through noon on Wednesday, July 10 at the Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona just prior to the I.B.M. Convention.

The LBTS is I.B.M.'s flagship youth magic experience.

Daily follow-up sessions will also be held. The core faculty are Lance Burton, Jeff McBride, and Larry Hass with guest presenters from select convention performers.

The Seminar is free to all teenage youth.

Registration details exist at www.ibmconvention.com.

Note that some partial travel scholarships are available. All teenagers are encouraged to jumpstart their magic skills with the best possible mentoring.

Here's one magician who attended the LBTS a few years ago, and look at him now: Shin Lim!

Looking for Erdnase Documentary in Production

Over the past couple of weeks, we have had a magic history lesson from Richard Hatch. I have received many emails saying that you like these historical perspectives. Well, this week we are going a little deeper into the mystery of "who was Erdnase", the mysterious author of "Expert at the Card Table". We visit with Hans-Joachim Brucherseifer, a German filmmaker who is producing a docudrama called "Looking for Erdnase" that will hopefully be released by year end. He has a Kickstarter campaign going now through March 25, 2019 at: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fourmatfilm/looking-for-erdnase?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=Erdnase

You can watch a trailer for the film, see some photos and stills from the movies, read the blog, learn about the "other" documentary on Erdnase, listen online to the podcast, and download the MP2 at: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/478-hans-joachim-brucherseifer Also, if you are interested, please request a password protected clip of the film direct from Hans. You can send your request to; mail@fourmat-film.de

This week we welcome Eugene Ng from Penang, Malaysia, as the newest Friend of The Magic Word. It is thanks to people like Eugene that believe in this podcast and keep us financially solvent so we can pay the production costs associated with broadcasting this podcast each week plus the daily updates from magic conventions. For more information on how you can help us, visit: https://www.themagicwordpodcast.com/fotmw

6. Sleightless Cull - John Carey #34
--------------------------------------------
Message by John Carey (UK)
https://carey-scene.com/jc-main

The following sleightless cull of, say, the Aces was inspired by a John Bannon cull in Dear Mr. Fantasy. John used a couple of indifferent cards as cover cards while culling the aces under the guise of trying to find a selection.

Have the spectator shuffle the deck and take it back, holding the deck face up in left hand dealers grip.

"Did you know there are some people who can spread through a shuffled deck and remember it in under 30 seconds?"

As you say this, spread the deck and sight the first ace. Get a left little finger break beneath it and square up. "But I'm not one of them!!!"

As you say this, cut to your break and complete the cut, sending the ace to the rear (top) of the deck.

"Even if I went through the cards and tried to remember three cards, like this three of Clubs, the seven of Diamonds and the Jack of Hearts, I would still have trouble, so let's try something else!"

As you say the above (and trying to keep a straight face) simply spread through the cards with the faces towards you and upjog each of the remaining aces, calling out three random indifferent cards. Strip them out and place them under the deck. Execute an in-the-hands riffle-shuffle retaining the aces and you have culled the aces to the top, with no moves, just bluff and attitude. The presentation really is everything here.

Segue into something unrelated to the aces before taking advantage of the bluff cull.

7. Dimmare's Martinis And Magic
--------------------------------------------
Message by James Dimmare (US)

Dimmare's Martinis and Magic...with a twist of Comedy and a Hula Girl!

What are Martinis and Magic? Well as Dimmare tells it..." It's not just a show, it's a lifestyle!"
Dimmare's love of the atomic Vegas era, where you could walk into any casino, and be entertained with class and style, cannot be understated. The Vegas of the 50's and 60's offered a plethora of who's who in entertainment with an ambiance of sophistication and cool that Dimmare has long endeavored to bring back to the city. Tiring of traveling overseas to perform as in "old Vegas," he seeks to establish a local venue to embody the swingin' vibe of what was, and can be again.

"Martinis and Magic" has found a Las Vegas home at the beautiful Royal Showroom inside the Legendary Thunderbird Boutique Hotel, where he has teamed up with the owners of this great property in a shared vision of an old Vegas style supper club, providing a great magic and comedy show while drinking, eating, and enjoying a night out on the town.

"Martinis and Magic", a one-man show, is an evolution of traditional old school Vegas entertainment, where "there's a good chance a beautiful doll will show up... but always a Ring-A-Ding, Ding good time." With this multi-award-winning legend in magic, who has done it all, from command performances for Royalty, to sharing stages with Rockers and Movie Stars, will experience a genre as intended, with heart, swagger and passionate precision.

No stranger to stage, Dimmare is a headliner from the great stages worldwide from the Moulin Rouge in Paris to the London Palladium, he has honed his craft for over 35 years, and has since 2007, when "Martinis and Magic" was formulated and performed, as brought his Retro Las Vegas to audiences across the globe which since has often been copied, but NEVER imitated.

You say Retro - Well this isn't your Grandpa's kind of magic show... Unless he was a Hip Cool Daddio who was a dealer at the Sands!

10. Magic Collectors Expo Magic History Event And Convention
--------------------------------------------
Message by Lance Rich (US)

I have a few updates regarding the Magic Collectors Expo magic history event and convention this June in Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. Check out The Magic Collectors Expo this year from June 20-22. www.magiccollectorsexpo.com

Because registrants in 2019 have a guaranteed first chance at registration for the 2020 Expo in Las Vegas (which includes the exclusive tour of David Copperfield's International Museum and Library for the Conjuring Arts), we've received a lot of interest and even a few registrations of people who have obligations in 2019, but don't want to miss out on the 2020 Expo.

Also, the host hotel (The Double Tree Park Place) is approaching Limited Remaining Availability. So if you have registered but haven't completed the hotel registration, do that soon!

The Magic Collectors Expo is being produced by David Sandy and Bill Smith. It will feature fascinating presentations about magic's history, an expanded dealers' room, several surprise events...and the event ends in a recreation of a supper club show...dinner and magic as you might have seen it in the 1940's and 1950's.
The event is limited to 200 registrants.

Again, check out www.magiccollectorsexpo.com for more info and to register. Also, David Sandy has released a video which highlights so many things about the Expo (including a few of the topics):
http://magiccollectorsexpo.com/index.php/magic-collectors-expo-video/

If you don't think you're a magic collector - but you enjoy hearing about magic and magicians of the past - I feel like there's something for you in Minneapolis.
