7. The Power of Saying Thanks - #473 - By Kyle Peron

How often do you really say thanks? Now how often do you
say, express and show thanks to the client you're performing
for? If you are really honest with yourself, the answer
may be "very little". In this day and age of service
providers, we can get into this thinking that what we do
is provide a service, get paid and move on. But what can
really come out of saying thanks or giving a thank you card
to your client? This is what I want to explore in more detail
in this week's article.
When I am at the event, I give the client a really nice
thank you kit. This is our way of saying thank you to them
and they really appreciate the effort and time taken to
do this for them. Then a few days after the actual event,
I do a follow up e-mail with them simply thanking them again
for what they did and any help they may have given my wife
and I.
Now
let me turn the tables around a little bit. What if you
were the client and hired someone to come out and fix your
electric. Their JOB is to fix it and do the best job that
they can. They really do not have to do more than that as
I am paying them for fixing it and solving a problem I am
faced with.
Now
what if a few days later I receive a thank you card or letter
or gift from the person or company? That would just make
me feel great about the experience and makes me remember
it more. If the person did a great job, I am now even more
impressed, I feel good about the situation and I certainly
will keep their name in the top of my head for future use.
If
I really liked the service, the thank you may also prompt
me to refer them and their services to others I know.
Do
they have to send a thank you note or gift? Certainly not.
Does it help them and their business? Yes, it does indeed.
I send out thank you cards to every client I work with and
even to those who helped me at the event. If someone helped
carry my stuff in from my truck, I try to get their information
and I send them a thank you card as well.
Do
I have to do this? Once again
no I do not. I WANT
to do this because I feel good about building the relationship
with the individuals and because I want to thank them for
what they have done for me.
I
have seen the power of what a simple thank you note or card
can do. I have seen it time and again. People will remember
you for it and will thank you for it as well.
I
personally have had festivals hire me back the next year
simply because I expressed thanks to them. When I talk with
them after the event I have had many of them open up to
me and personally say, "I just wanted you to realize
something. Not sure if this makes any difference to you
but it did to me. Out of all the acts I have hired over
the years, you were the ONLY entertainer who actually sent
me a thank you card the next week. I still have that card
as a reminder that there are folks out there who make a
difference."
Now
this may not happen to everyone and people may not actually
tell you things like this. However, mark my word that it
does indeed leave a good lasting impression in their minds.
This is a feeling and impression I want them to remember
from the experience with having me at their event.
I
will leave you with this. If you could willing KNOW you
are building a good relationship with a client and could
KNOW that your name is being remembered long after an event....
then why wouldn't anyone feel that it is worth the price
of a simple stamp?
As
always, I encourage you the readers to let me know your
thoughts. So, if you have any thoughts on my articles or
suggestions or comments, please feel free to e-mail me directly
at Kylekellymagic@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you.

Michael Turco fell in love with the mystery of magic when
he was just five-years-old. Spending his summers just miles
from the strip in Atlantic City, Turco saw every magic show
in the area and was intent to master each trick and illusion
on his own. He has had his own show in Las Vegas at Planet
Hollywood casino and brought a little bit of Jersey to the
strip. The press describes Turco as "a natural born
talent
a true success story." Michael Turco has

Naathan Phan's first love in life was, and still is, magic.
He became enamored by the art at the tender age of five
when his grandfather showed him his very first magic tricks.
Although his magical genesis may sound a bit cliché,
his magic is anything but. Naathan Phan hooks you with his
Robin Williams paced wit and humor, perfectly punctuated
by his well-practiced prestidigitation, and geared towards
your audience, whatever age(s) they may be. Phan has toured
with the Masters of Illusion live show as well as performed
on The CW hit television series, Masters of Illusions, multiple
times. Aside from being a magician, Phan also is adept at
doing celebrity impressions.
