Message posted on Facebook by Archimedes Noctua

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved matriarch, international ambassador and co-founder of the Academy of Magical Arts, Irene Larsen. Princess Irene passed away peacefully this morning at her home at Brookledge.

Irene, AMA member #1, was the love and the light of the Academy and truly defined our mission statement, serving the Magic Castle in every aspect. A past President of the AMA Board of Directors and member of the Board of Trustees, she served on virtually every committee over the years. She devoted her life to the Magic Castle.

From the Castle's earliest days, Irene and her husband, AMA President for Life, Bill Larsen Jr., spent each evening greeting guests as they walked through the doors … a practice she frequently continued, right up until her untimely death.

An ardent animal activist, Irene referred to herself as "The Animal Police" within the magic community, ensuring that all performers who included animals in their acts - at the Magic Castle and everywhere - treated them with dignity and respect. In Genii: The International Conjurers Magazine, the monthly publication that she co-edited for many years with Bill, Irene posted tips in nearly every issue on how to correctly care for animals in acts.

Irene was a driving force behind the AMA's international reputation. She insisted that Genii be referred to as The International Conjurers Magazine to be inclusive of magicians worldwide and attended magic conventions around the globe to promote both the AMA and the magazine.

Irene will live on in our hearts forever. She loved this club and each and every one of us for supporting it.

Please keep Irene's children in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days … Dante (Blaire), Heidi and Erika Larsen, as well as her four beautiful grandchildren, Liberty, Lily and Liam Larsen and Jessica Hopkins.

All Hail the Queen. We love you Irene.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Last Chance for Animals (LCA), or any animal welfare organization of your choice. Irene supported them all.

6. The Magic Word Podcast - The Inner Secrets Of The Outerbridges
--------------------------------------------
Message by Scott Wells, M.I.M.C. with Gold

Have you ever dreamed of being a "big time" stage magician, traveling from coast-to-coast and entertaining the masses? This week on The Magic Word we talk with Ted and Marion Outerbridge, two of Canada's leading theatre stage magicians. They give us some great stories about working on the road and what it's like to design sell an illusion show. Ted is an illusion builder also, so he spends his "down time" (when they are not on the road) building the new ideas that he and Marion discussed while traveling across the frozen tundra in parts of Canada. Shake up a martini and join us for a fun, late night chat.

You can watch a video promoting their show, see some photos, read the blog, listen to the podcast and download the MP3 file at: http://themagicwordpodcast.com/scottwellsmagic/278-the-outerbridges

And this week we congratulate Nathan Reed and Fred King for winning free digital downloads of the audio book from Audible.com "The Ambitious Card - An Eli Marks Mystry" by John Gaspard. But now it's time for an all new contest thanks to the Outerbridges...a Lecture Bundle valued at $135. And this contest is open to everyone worldwide. Ted has agreed to ship the Lecture Bundle to the winner anywhere in the world. Visit the website and scroll to the bottom to enter the contest.

Good luck and thanks for listening!

14. Browser's Den of Magic 2nd Annual "Bash" - Toronto
--------------------------------------------
Message by John Richards (Canada)
April 2nd, 2016

If you live within a couple thousand miles of Toronto, Canada and love magic then you deserve to treat yourself to the Browser's Den of Magic second annual "Bash" - a 12 hour extravaganza of magic and fun.

You can find the most recently updated details here:
http://www.browsersden.com/bash

I have no direct connection to the event nor to the sponsoring b & m although I did attend their first "Bash" last year and am a regular customer. So I guess I can speak both independently and from first hand experience.

I will posit that this year's "Bash", only the second in recorded history, will be even more awesome than last year. And you should know that last year met and exceeded all my expectations.

I had way more fun than I ever thought possible. No kidding. I had actually expected to want to sneak out after a few hours... the reality was I didn't want it to end even after 12 hours. And I know I wasn't the only one who felt that way.

It was like one big family party.

Again this year there will be a ton of magicians, of magic and magical moments with lunch and dinner thrown in - and lots of opportunity to simply hang out and schmooze.

The price is incredibly reasonable for what you get; even more so with the Canadian dollar lower than ever! I would be truly amazed if they even break even (but I truly hope that they do!)

The b & m behind ithe event is The Browser's Den of Magic, IMHO one of the finest in the world - and itself worth a visit to Toronto anytime.

So if you can go, all I can say is - go. Seriously. You won't regret it.

Just a reminder that the 3rd annual Oceanside Magic International convention is coming up shortly, and features some of the best talent worldwide!

Have you heard of it? Word is spreading~~OMI is literally "oceanside", at the beautiful Red Jacket Beach Resort in South Yarmouth, MA--April 14-17. This year's line-up is again incredible:

Chipper Lowell
Keith Fields
George Schindler
Joe Givan and Carol Massie
Joe M. Turner
Norman Ng
Malik
with additional lectures by Harry Allen, and David Ginn

This year's OMI honoree and special guest is Harry Lorayne!

You don't want to miss this event. Plus, there are several S.A.M. Past National Presidents and other notable "celebrities" signed up to attend...including S.A.M. president, David Bowers! Hope you'll consider attending too.

If you can't attend, would you be willing to help us get the word out? Let me know, and I'll e-mail you something that can be added to your Assembly newsletters or Facebook page.

Thank you, friends; hope to see you on Cape Cod!
