Headliner Joe Monti

Saturday evening 26th October and Sunday 27th October 2013
Over the Labour Weekend holiday

IBM Ring 160 and The Palmerston North Magic Circle present a 'Magicana Weekend' over Labour Weekend, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October 2013 at the Speirs Centre, Palmerston North. This is the same venue as the 2006 International Convention which starred David Williamson, Lisa Menna and Duane Laflin. The lovely modern theatre for 360 folk is set in a complex that offers several large rooms (including a room big enough to rehearse a symphony orchestra) and a kitchen. There is plenty of free parking also. This is the Arts Complex of Palmerston North Boys' High School.

We have secured the celebrated American comedy magician Joe Monti to be our headline act for the convention. He will perform at the night-before show during a cabaret at a downtown restaurant, give a rich lecture on Sunday and perform in the Gala Show on Sunday evening. Other acts are under negotiation. Details of other lecturers are yet to be finalised.

This is basically a one-day convention with a night-before show cabaret, a full day of lectures, seminars, dealers' tables, a bring and buy area for your 'pre-loved' tricks, books and DVDs, a parlour magic/close-up competition and a public Gala Show of high quality. The Monday morning is likely to offer a last chance to visit the dealers and farewell your friends. Convention Registration is likely to be about $80.

I have secured a special deal with the Travelodge Hotel in Cuba Street (opposite our night-before show restaurant) and this is the nearest hotel to our venue in Featherston St, a five-minute walk away but also served by free parking. The hotel deal is $105 for a double room per night. Full breakfast for two in addition would be $141. Ring 'Travelodge Hotels' Palmerston North 06 355 5895; Fax 06 355 5958; or email: tpmr@travelodge.co.nz

As many of you know, the airport is only a five minute taxi drive away from hotel and venue; the bus station is only a few yards away from both the restaurant and hotel which is also in Cuba Street. The venue and the city is very car friendly.
