Editors Message ------------------- Message from Alan Watson - The Magic One IBM Convention - Reno June 2005 Stan Goudge is compiling a list of New Zealand magicians who are planning to attend the IBM convention in Reno June 2005 to support Kiwi International IBM President Tony Wilson. For those that aren't aware you don't have to be an IBM member to attend this convention. E-mail Stan at: goudgems@ihug.co.nz if you are (a) Definite Or (b) Possible attendee. ------------------------------ Cookie’s Fun Club in the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly Shayne Thompson alias Cookie the Clown - one of New Zealand’s most loved professional clowns has hit a mile stone this week with some sad and happy news to share. He has just returned from his 10th anniversary tour of Fiji where over 60,000 people attended his outstanding family comedy shows. His guest acts this year were an ariel acrobatic troupe from Canada called “ High Strung”……anyway I digress….. As many Kiwi readers know Shayne has been writing a weekly double page spread of fun things to do for kids - called Cookie’s Fun Club in the New Zealand Woman’s Weekly - read by over 1 million Kiwis every week. This week marks the 10th year in print, and the final edition of the Fun Club. Says Shayne, “The Fun Club has appeared in 492 editions of the NZ Woman’s Weekly and in that time have presented over 4000 unique and fun things to do for kids along with 6000 jokes, 10,000 facts just to name a few. The fun club was a great marketing and promotional tool for his clown character, but time marches on. Shayne’s performance schedule and spending engagements have been taking more of his time over the years and something had to go. So it’s farewell to the Fun Club - but not farewell to Cookie with plans for a Cookie The Clown DVD release later this year along with a busy 500 show schedule through New Zealand and the Asia Pacific Rim over the next 8 months. ---------------- Remember if you have any magic news drop me a line: AW@Alan-Watson.com ----------------- 2. 2005 Edition Of The Guinness Book Of World's Records ----------------- Message from Jonathan Pendragon (US) There is a magic section in the new 2005 edition of the Guinness Book of World's Records. It's the 50th anniversary issue and they (Guinness) are doing a big promotion. Charlotte and I are in the book for the fastest Metamorphosis in history. The Guinness judges including Paul Kiev, the magic adviser to Guinness, presented us with a certificate and a copy of the book at our home on the California coast. Paul is the magic consultant on the Harry Potter films and can be seen in the most recent film performing the multiplying candles in a Hogsmead tavern. David Copperfield (largest illusion ever and highest paid), Penn and Teller (most animals, 80,000 bees, in an effect) and Siegfried and Roy (most expensive magic show ever produced) are a few of the other entries. There are also several historical figures including Selbit and Devant listed. Australian Robert Gallup is also listed for his death defying midair escape. My brother is retired 82nd Airborne and he thought that Robert's stunt was really amazing and crazy, or was that really crazy and amazing. When I told that to Robert he said it was one of the best compliments he had received on the escape. The book is beautifully produced and treats magic with great respect. It goes on sale later this summer. ----------------- 3. Harry And Trudy Monti College Scholarships Awarded ----------------- Message from Harry and Trudy Monti (US) Harry and Trudy Monti are pleased to announce that two Harry and Trudy Monti College Scholarships were awarded at the Society of American Magicians National Convention in St. Louis, Missouri on July 11. Tony Wilson’s Magical Adventures ----------------- Message from Tony Wilson - IBM International President 2004 - 2005 We rented a car to drive from Louisville to Knoxville and enjoyed the five hour drive between Kentucky and Tennessee. IBM Past President Mike Stratman met us at a gas station 10 miles from the airport drop off and we transferred our luggage prior to leaving the rental and returning to his home a few miles out of the city in a tranquil lake setting.  After a quick change Mike, Darlene (Mike’s wife), Mary and I set off for an official Ring 58 banquet and welcome night. After a pleasant meal, and a speaker who had a photo gallery of famous personalities, I was presented with honorary life membership of Ring 58 with a unique plaque (designed and produced by Tom Vorjorhan).Thank you Ring 58. I also performed my 20 minute stand up presentation which was well received. The next day Mike, Darlene, Mary and I drove to Pigeon Forge (about a three hour drive) to visit Dollywood, a large amusement park (owned by Dolly Parton) and, in the evening an excellent variety show put on by Louise Mandrell in her own theatre which had all the bells and whistles. This show was superb and with Mike’s contact (and generosity) we were sitting in the front row.  Any closer and we would have had our name on the programme!!  Mike also arranged a video copy of the whole show performed that night for us to bring home as a souvenir. Thank you Mike and Darlene for a great experience as well as the kind hospitality extended to us. The next day we flew from Knoxville to Toronto, Canada via Chicago, missed our tight connecting flight and finally arrived 5 hours later than planned.  Waiting on the runway at O’Hare Airport for an hour (number 15 in line for take off!) as well as an hour for the delayed flight and an hour late leaving Knoxville all added up to a long wait for our hostess in Toronto, Joan Caesar.  Thank you Joan for being so patient and understanding.  She was pleased to see us and we were pleased to see her! Toronto here we come! ----------------- 5. The Stealing Continues ----------------- Message from George Robinson Jr. - Viking Mfg./Collectors' Workshop Attention Magic Fraternity. Please be advised that there is an unauthorized copy of our proprietary effect Badland's Bob being offered by an unscrupulous dealer/manufacturer under the name of The Obedient Die. We ask that you not support this lack of ethics that is permeating our Magic society. Badland's Bob is an original Collectors' Workshop product and we ask the Magic community to respect and support our efforts to protect our property. ----------------- 6. Richard Webster Renown Author And Mental Wonder ----------------- Message from Kenton Knepper (US) For the second time, an unusual meeting of eclectic types gathered near Phoenix, Arizona, USA to swap tales and mental exploits. Renown author, reader and mental wonder Richard Webster was in town for another book signing tour. The current tour was for his new book on Miracles", and it was only slightly less than a miracle for this gathering to take place. Richard was joined by friends and colleagues Graham Rogers, Lee Earle and Kenton Knepper for a lunch that was hardly standard fare. In a previous meeting a few years back Larry Becker, Doc Hilford and J. Tank joined in as well. Mr. Becker was preparing for upcoming conventions this year and J. Tank for a new child about to be born any moment. Mr. Hilford was in Florida. Richard and Doc were to meet later there. The conversation centred on all things mental, from the art of perception and creating real miracles, to personality development and public persona. All agreed foremost in the mental and miraculous arts is to have a pleasing personality and a passion for whatever you are doing. Few could be as pleasing and as passionate about their works and varied points of view than this group. Richard Webster is highly revered for his ability to bridge the gap between his previous mental tasks and public writing. All involved have been noted for their endeavours with both celebrities and the general public; blending their unique visions and realms in novel styles and teachings. It was indeed the long friendship of Graham Rogers with Richard Webster that allowed these meetings to twice occur. Graham organized the meetings and places, making all the needed contacts and dealing with the wild schedules of this select group. No easy task, but all are indeed grateful for his help and perseverance. For those who do not know him, Graham Rogers is quite the pleasing mentalist from Richard's part of the world, who later relocated into "mentalist's central" in Arizona. The famed 6 and 1/2 were of course based in Phoenix, Arizona and the joining of Richard Webster with his old friends is always a celebration. "It is as if we have seen each other daily, though it has been years" said both Kenton and Richard simultaneously. "Bad habit - mentalism" said the others with a laugh. Richard spoke of his miraculous experiences and of the daily magic that we may all see should we care to look. Kenton seconded this notion quickly of course. Lee Earle followed these notions with his usual wry and thoughtful wit, pointing out it was indeed a miracle that such diverse types were fast friends. Most of what was spoken about cannot be shared of course. But it is noteworthy when such prominent people join together to talk about the fate of their various art forms and how to best influence what is going on in the world today. "We all believe we can make a difference with what we do" said Kenton. "All of us gathered know it is a challenge to do that. But we are each driven to make a difference in our own way". "Kenton" Richard remarked, "The door over there is about to blow open with a message for you". Barely did Mr. Webster make his comment when the door to the restaurant swung open to reveal a car and driver waiting. "No, let's talk some more" Graham insisted. "I'll drive Kenton home after we get Richard off". Mr. Earle turned over a napkin on the table that read "Kenton go with Graham. All laughed heartily at what they termed a "common miracle" and the group reluctantly went about their hurried schedules. It's a weird event when such uniquely gifted friends gather, after all. This year was no exception. ----------------- 7. Indeed, What's In A Name? ----------------- Message from Nick Morton - Secretary - Australian Society of Magicians (est. 1907). Had to have a chuckle about Walter Zaney Blaney getting upset about someone using the name "Magic Makers" when his friends have been using it since 1986 (less than 20 years by my reckoning). He is obviously unaware that The Australian Society of Magicians (the fourth oldest magic club in the world after the SAM, IBM and Magic Circle) have been continuously publishing our monthly magazine called "Magic Makers" since Jan 1946 (almost 60 years!) If you ask anyone in this half of the world, "Magic Makers" is synonymous with the ASM and Australian magic, not some crowd in Canada. Nevertheless, as there are only so many "magic" names one can come up with, we won't take offence at the Frenettes taking our name after we had been using it continuously for 40 years! Live and let live we say! ----------------- 8. Ken Ring - Front Page Sydney Morning Herald ----------------- Message from Ken Ring (NZ) Auckland clown/magician Ken Ring, aka MATHMAN, also long range weather forecaster, made the front page of the Sydney Morning herald during the last week, plus a live interview on Sydney's Channel 7, with his prediction of a week of rain for drought-stricken Sydney about mid August. What followed were interviews from Australian radio stations. Ken's weather website is www.predictweather.com ----------------- 9. Juliana Chen In Berlin ----------------- Message from Clive Court (Canada) Juliana Chen, The Elusive First Lady Of Magic, To Make Her Debut In Berlin, August 12. Vancouver, BC - (July 9)--Lower Mainland residents heading for Las Vegas in the next few weeks may be able to catch the elusive Juliana Chen, Vancouver's world champion magician. Chen is featured in The World's Greatest Magic Show at The Greek Isles Casino until the end of the month when she heads for Germany. On August 12, she will open in Zauber, Zauber! at The Berlin Wintergarten, Germany's most famous variety theatre where she will perform until October 31. Chen's debut in Germany's national capital marks a new stage in her rising career. Since winning her world title at the 1997 World Congress of Magicians, Chen has given some 800 performances in other major cities around Germany. Having paid her dues in Germany, Chen now has the opportunity to step into the national spotlight and enhance her career profile in Europe. Then, for the first time in six years, Chen will be able to spend Christmas in Vancouver with her family. Early in January 2005, she returns to Germany to play the Tiger Palace in Frankfurt for three months. In April, she moves to Stuttgart where she will be featured at the Variete Friedrichshall until the end of June. In July 2005, Chen is expected to play a week at the Midsummer Magic Festival in Richmond. All in all, a busy year ahead for the world's first lady of magic.* * Juliana was the first, and still remains the only woman, to have won a world championship with a solo act in the 50-year history of the World Congress of Magicians (FISM). ----------------- 10. International Jugglers Fest - Buffalo, New York ----------------- Message from Bob Durante AKA Zap The International Jugglers Fest was held last week in Buffalo, New York. 670 people from around the globe were lucky to see some of the greatest manipulators in all the world. Juggling is getting much more flourishy almost the way magic is becoming with the DeVo and Jeff McBride magi's joining our ranks. The highlights were a brother and sister team who at 13 and 16 years old were too good to compete in our junior competition and won first place Gold medals in the adult team competitions. This year’s fest was a tribute to the Flying Karamzov Brothers who performed throughout out the festival. Great time and for those who juggle with their magic our IJA mag is written and produced under the Stan Allen Magic Magazine mast. Very similar but with a juggling theme of course. I presented a workshop on juggling and its relation to magic so maybe we will see some blending of these two great arts by next years convention. ----------------- 12. URGENT Gulf Coast Magic Seminar -- CANCELLED -- PLEASE READ ----------------- Message from Maria Ibanez (US) Greetings everyone: Just received the following information from Lori Kirlin -- with reference to cancellation of the upcoming Gulf Coast Magic Seminar. I have copied, with her permission, her e-mail to me below..... I appreciate all your help, but attendance is still low. People just don't seem to be responding. At this point, I only have 25 paid registration (the rest are entertainers and complimentary). To save ourselves from $14000 of debt, we have no choice but to cancel the convention. Believe it or not, only 1 person registered from Ft Myers because one of our entertainers told everyone it was cancelled 3 weeks ago. That really hurt registration in this area. It also caused 2 of our entertainers to make other plans. I will be sending out an email to those who have registered, and I will return their money as soon as I get it back from the hotel. We plan to try again in a year or so. Thank you again for trying so hard. Lori ----------------- 13. New Lord Of The Rings From New Zealand Visits Toronto ----------------- Message from Clive Court (Canada) TORONTO, ONT. (16 July)--He's a Grand Master of Magic and the new Lord of the Rings from New Zealand but he has nothing to do with the hit movies. Meet Tony Wilson--magician, teacher, educational psychologist—from Auckland, New Zealand. He's visiting Toronto for a few days following his installation, earlier this month, as International President of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. Co-founded by a Canadian, Len Vintus, in the early twenties, the Brotherhood is now the largest magical society in the world with nearly 15,000 magicians organized into more than 300 Rings in 73 countries including China. While in Ontario, July 19-23, Wilson will be visiting local Rings in Kitchener, Toronto and Hamilton. As the first international president from Downunder, Wilson has a unique perspective as he begins his world tour of many Rings. He has a number of projects he wants to emphasize during his year in office. One of these has to do with changing recording technologies from videotape to digital disc. Wilson is urging magicians in the leading industrialized countries to donate their old instructional videos to magicians in third world countries. Wilson has spent most of his life working in New Zealand with the exception of 1978-79 when, as a Rotary scholar, he lived in Toronto while studying education at York University. In New Zealand, Wilson has been recognized by his peers as a Grand Master of Magic for his contributions to the field of performance magic. The award is rarely made and he is one of only seven recipients since 1969. ----------------- 14. Ring 211 - Grand Rapids, MI. ......"Petrick and Mia Lecture - Outstanding! This couple work together to put on a great show, but they also work together to make a “bang-bang” lecture. It is like a trick a minute. Even in the lecture. Each of the effects Petrick and Mia offered were practical, easy to perform and positively amazing. Petrick’s style of teaching is not only well-suited for learning but entertaining in itself. He is such a charming entertainer that even when he is relating the secrets to his entertaining effects, he is entertaining. .....Petrick shares his secrets as if we are all in on it together. He seems excited about what he is about to relate and charmingly proud in the method. Do yourself a favor and make the trip necessary to see Petrick and Mia wherever they are. Good, Great, Grater - Peter Marucci ----------------- Message from Peter Marucci (Canada) The New Zealander who now heads the International Brotherhood of Magicians is in the area this week (July 18) and on Sunday, Tony Wilson and his wife Mary were the guests of honor at a barbecue at the home of Territorial Vice-President Joan Caesar. A number of magicians from Ontario -- yours truly, included -- performed for the couple, who are on a four-month tour (I hesitate to call it a "vacation", given their killing schedule) of the world, Tony having been installed as the first south-of-the-equator president of the IBM at the group's international convention in Cleveland, Ohio earlier this month. And so, in their honor, I offer the following, based on an idea from the Linking Ring, the monthly publication of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. By Peter Marucci One of the great values of the Linking Ring magazine is the Ring reports near the back. Unfortunately, most people just read about their own Ring, or skim over the reports, or skip them entirely That's a pity, because there are some truly amazing ideas in those reports. Over the years I have come up with variations on a good half-dozen -- usually something that I would never have thought of if it hadn't appeared in a report. So it is with the following offering. It's short -- but don't underestimate its impact on a lay audience. I have never -- ever -- failed to get a laugh with this, no matter how tough the audience. Good, Great, Grater Effect: The magus works his wonders -- whatever they may be -- to the amazement of his audience. Then, when he finishes, he points out: "You may have thought that was good; you may even have thought it was great. But this -- this is a little greater." And, as he says "a little greater," he pulls a tiny cheese/vegetable grater out of his pocket. Second thoughts: No need to go into the "working" of this -- since there isn't any. This can be used in the middle of a close-up routine to shift from one effect to a totally different one; it can be used to close a close-up routine; or it can be used to close off just one trick. In the latter two cases, it makes a natural end to the routine or trick, a definite applause cue and laugh-getter (as the magic catalogs say). The idea came from the December, 1997, Linking Ring, in a report from Ring 90 in Albuquerque, N.M. and was credited there to Gary Purdue, who used it to compliment the performers at a Ring meeting. He said that while all the effects seen during the evening were really great, what he had was "just a little grater." I don't know if Gary uses this all the time -- but he should; it's just too good to be used as a one-time throwaway bit. As I said above, this is the one thing that I do that is an absolute, sure-fire and guaranteed laugh-getter. The hardest thing, of course, will be finding the miniature grater. However, don't despair: You should be able to pick one up at a gourmet shop or specialty food shop in any major mall or large city. But don't, whatever you do, use anything but a food grater -- not a rasp, not a nail file, nothing else. It's too much to ask for the audience to make the mental leap between file, for example, and grater. But a food grater is instantly identifiable and the audience will make the connection immediately. And remember, too, to read those Ring reports; there's a wealth of material in them, just waiting for you to put it to work. Jamie will be doing the most dangerous straight jacket escape. The reason that this escape is so dangerous is because Jamie has a per-cath in his neck. This means that the main artery in his neck is attached to 2 tubes that hang down from his neck. He needs these tubes to be able to dialyze. These tubes are his life-line as of right now. This will be Jamie's first time with this escape. Also during the 6th and the 7th Jamie will be giving out his total magic foil system this will work by first come first serve. About The Magic Foil System. Magicians from around the world are using Jamie's new magic foil system. This system allows you to do magic you have only dreamed of doing and the best part it is mostly self- working. Jamie himself has been using this system for over 16 years and just came out to share it with the magic fellowship. In the first month of coming out with this awesome new system Jamie sent out 500 magic foil systems out to I.B.M. members and to members of the I.B.M. Ring-2100. About Jamie-G Himself Jamie has been doing magic since he was five years of age. His parents bought him a magic kit at a yard sale and all the good stuff was taken out. He started buying magic from a local store in Windsor. While he was doing his magic his kidneys started failing. He managed to get a transplant after being on dialysis for four years. Once he got his transplant things were going good for him. He ended up catching a parasite from the drinking water and it eventually killed off his transplant kidney. He started back on dialysis just over a year ago. The fistula that he had in his left arm for dialysis started to fail so he went in for emergency surgery to put in his perm-cath. While all this was happening to him he was still able to perform his magic. In February of this year a surprise party was held for him in Toronto. At this time he received an award from the Member of Parliament Brian Wilfert. He also received an award from the Prime Minister of Canada Paul Martin. The only other person to receive a certificate from the government for his magic was Doug Henning. No other magicians have ever been honored. He is looking forward to getting another transplant but he still has a long way to go before he even gets on the list. ----------------- 21. Revolutionary Card To Newspaper - Jamie-G ----------------- Message from Jamie-G (Canada) Effect: Magician shows a card to the spectators. In a blink of an eye it instantly turns into a newspaper. Props: A playing card and a sheet of paper. The paper that you use has to be from a tabloid or Penny Saver. The paper must be as wide as a normal newspaper but not as long. I use the part of the paper that already has the middle fold in it so that when it opens and the paper drops I can very easily fold the paper in half and show both sides of it. Preparation: You have to fold your paper in a certain way so that when you pull on the corners and drop the paper it will fall instantly. Explanation: Of The Fold: First your paper is folded in half. It automatically comes with the fold if you are using a complete sheep of the paper. Your card is going to be on the back of the paper in the lower left hand side. You are now going to make an accordion fold. You have to make it a little bit smaller then the width of your playing card. Have the back of your paper facing you and start the fold with the right side of the paper. On the last fold it will be a lot smaller then the rest of the folds. This is going to make the flap that you pull to turn you card into a paper. Once you have made all your folds you open your paper again and make the actual fold that you will be using for the trick. Take the right side of your paper and fold it where the fold is already made. You are then going to fold it that same way again. You are going against the original fold. Keep folding it this way until you get to the little piece that you have at the end. You are going to fold the little piece at the end over top of all your folds. Now you have to find where you are going to place the card. You have measure where the card is going to go. Fold the bottom of your paper a little bit smaller then the length of the card. You then have to double stick tape your card right in the middle so that it hides the paper length wise and width wise. You should now have your card at the bottom of the paper but with no paper showing. You then have to fold the top of the paper. You have to fold the paper backwards so that it is over the paper behind the card. Then you fold what is left of the paper over that. Your paper should all be folded behind the card. You should now have the open part of the paper back behind the card. These will be your pull tabs. Your pull tabs should be pointing downwards at all times. Method: This routine is very simple and almost self working. You take your pull tabs that are pointing downwards and let the front of the paper fall down and then open up your paper. The card automatically is facing you and not your audience. You can then fold your paper in half and show it front and back. You can end the trick there or you can use the paper for a production item. Example is thump tip and silk or a fan of cards. You can also use this method to produce a dove from nowhere. Note: We are working with paper so it does rip very easily. To repair the rips just put clear tape across it and it should last you a while. Tip # 1: The card to newspaper can be done at any time during your routine. You can do it to music or without. You don't really need patter to do this trick. Tip # 2: As a magician that works with a lot of gimmicked cards, the card to newspaper fits perfectly into a normal deck of poker cards. You can put it at the bottom of the deck and do other routines and then use your card to newspaper. Fact: Jamie-G claims exclusive rights to this effect. If there are any other effects out there like this I have no knowledge of it. It took me six months to figure out the fold for this trick. Note: If you have a hard time making this effect let me know and I could ship you out one. jamiegmagic@aol.com ----------------- 22. Never Trust A Magician, Not Even A Sick One! ----------------- Message from Tommy Orchard (The Amazing Orchante)(UK ex-pat Kiwi) Hi everyone. Here is the ‘magical’ tale as promised last week. Actually, there are two, if I have the room; I remembered the other after reading how Burns Scandrett taught his surgeon how to fan cards etc. during his recovery period following his own, rather severe operation. Thanks to my surgeon, word got around among the nurses and staff doctors on my ward even before I arrived at the hospital, that a magician / fire-eater etc. who had contracted emphysema, was due in for major lung surgery. His ‘hook’ was that I contracted the disease because of the toxic fumes I had inhaled from the fuel I had been using for years, here in the U.K., for my Fire-Eating routine. Not the ‘normal’ way that people wind up with this most crippling, incurable disease! While I was recovering from my lung operation, I had bucket loads of various pills to take - pain killers, antibiotics, water tablets and God only knows what else. Which reminds me, why is it that the nurses wait until you have finally fallen into a sound sleep, then wake you up for your next pill-popping episode? One lot of pills I had to take twice a day for pain were morphine tablets, two at a time, each about the size of small button. Normally only one nurse brought the assortment of pills at various times of the day and night, but when they started on the morphine jobs, two nurses came to my bedside. When I inquired why, they informed me that the morphine tablets were a restricted drug and had to be kept under lock and key and by law, two nurses were required to ensure that I actually swallowed the tablets. Apparently, drug addicts and others, were in the habit of storing them up to sell on the outside, to either make a bit of cash or to fund their habit! I behaved myself for the first day then that devilish ‘Magic Imp’ who resides somewhere inside all magicians or at least in the abnormal ones like me, whipped out his little pitchfork and rammed it full force into my conscience. Conscience, what conscience? Oh, you poor nurses! The second day arrives and eventually two nurses arrive, heralding that its morphine tablet taking time. Carefully I took the first one, placed it on my tongue, and then swallowed it down with a sip of water, all the while being scrutinized by my ‘keepers’. The second one followed in like fashion. As the nurses got up to leave I said, “It wouldn’t take much to get hooked on these things” “What do you mean?” inquires one. “Well” I said, I find them quite tasty” then, sticking my right finger into my right ear, I slowly pulled it out - with one of the morphine pills balanced on the fingertip. “That’s one” I declared, then promptly repeated the ‘magical’ production with my left ear; “and that makes two”. The look on the faces of my two ‘victims’ really was a sight to behold. As they gasped and spluttered I said, “you just can’t trust magicians”! “Really Mr Orchard” one said in embarrassment”, you can’ t do things like that”! “Yes I can I replied”, I just did, but don’t worry I will take them, I don’t want to be in pain for the next few hours”! Again, under their watchful gaze, I downed first one then, apparently, the other. Well, how the hell are they going to know - ‘Sleight of Hand’ is my speciality! Now I was really set-up for some apparent miracles later, utilizing the ancient ‘One Ahead’ principle. As you can imagine, I had a lot of fun over the next few days, apparently swallowing pills and pulling them out from various places where they had no right to be. By then, I had an extra four to ‘play ’ with, which gave me a lot of scope; I mean, I could actually allow them to place them on my tongue, and hold the glass of water as I swallowed them down, then ‘magically’ reproduce them from where-ever. Nobody even thought that I might have more than two tablets in my possession. By the way, it wasn’t just two nurses - now there was a small gathering around my bed, waiting to see from which orifice the pills might pop out from. I did keep it clean! By the way, the only thing I wore in hospital were boxing shorts while I was in bed, and I had a Japanese style dressing gown for when I was up and about. All the other patients had on pyjamas - I hate the things (at home I sleep in the nude), so all my ‘magic’ I performed topless and sleeveless. I’ll relate a couple of other things next week. PS health wise, the last five or so days have been absolutely marvellous - I cannot believe the turn around. I can waltz up and down the stairs at home without heaving my heart out, walked about a mile in town the other day; I haven’t been able to do that for at least six years. Positive thinking? YES! ------------------ 23.
