Editors Message ------------------------------------- Message from Alan Watson - The Magic One A frightening experience On Tuesday of this week I was enroute to Rainbows End on the motorway when Larissa heard a strange noise. Firstly we thought it was a puncture. I pulled over and as I came to a stop the wheel flew off the van and rolled down a bank. The Automobile Association serviceman who came to our aid said we were extremely lucky, as the van could have rolled. It was a close call as Larissa and Melanie had their babies in the van, as well as our magic props for the Rainbows End shows. Congratulations to Tara and Yara Okan A baby girl arrived on Thursday - Arien weighed in at 7 lbs a wonderful homebirth experience for all the family. Australasian Enterprises The World Festival of Magic is returning again this year to Australia and New Zealand. And it is timely to acknowledge and thank, Gene McCarthy, Promoter, for bringing high calibre international acts downunder that we all can learn from. It has created a fantastic spin off here in New Zealand for the professionals. Mark Dunn (Christchurch) Have implemented Mark's idea of creating an auto responder for new applications to the MagicNZ e-zine mail list and also automatically sending them a copy of the last issue. I would really appreciate it you have any ideas on how to improve the e-zine please e-mail me with your suggestions: alan@watson.co.nz ------------------------------------- 2. Michael & Lori Finney in car accident ---------------------------------- Message from Michael Finney My wife Lori and I were on the way to the airport for my trip down under. Another car ran a red light and hit the rear quarter panel spinning the car we were in through the intersection. I was not hurt just shaken up, my wife who has been in four car crashes in the last 3 years was ridding in the back of the car bore the brunt of the hit. getting quite a jolt, enough to be taken to the hospital for the night. At this point there was no way I was going to leave her alone. We have been married for over 22 years and she is the most important thing in my Life. Her girl friend who was driving is doing fine as we all had seat belts on. I have never had to miss any show for a reason such as this, and feel bad that it happened at this time. Paul and Kristina have been so good to me and they are the ones I feel for the most because they worked so hard to get me there. As for all the participants my sincerest regrets. I hope someday in the near future to be able to make this up to all. ---------------------------------- 4. Publicity stuff is going well ---------------------------------- Message for Guy Cater Hey ..this publicity stuff is going well. Enormous posters all over Auckland are helping and (shades of Chicane) my daughter Vanessa is very proud as she took the photograph they are using. Today I did a piece for a television show called 'Space'. It is a music/magazine show for the X Generation (whatever that is) and I was interviewed by the female presenter and hypnotised the male host. Just a wonderful piece of luck in that he turned out to be a brilliant subject. It goes to air Friday week (14th July) at 9:30pm on TV2. It was the first night of the week run at the PowerStation last night and the show went well with an almost capacity crowd. I'm enjoying this more than the normal cabaret work because (shades of the Watsons) I'm working with my daughters. Vanessa is my onstage assistant and Virginia does the sound. Sometimes it really is great to be in this business. ------------------------------------- 8. Colour flash paper with food colouring ------------------------------------- Message from Ross Harlick There was a suggestion in last week's issue from Jack Poulter to colour flash paper with food colouring. If anyone is interested the food colouring works and has no adverse effect on the flash paper. I painted the flash paper using a paintbrush. - covered both sides and allowed to dry. Works great. ------------------------------------- 9. Veteran magician, Rex Sinclair, passed away ------------------------------------- Message From Kent Blackmore A note to advise you that Newcastle's veteran magician, Rex Sinclair, passed away at the age of 95 on Friday morning, July 7. A service, to include the Broken Wand ceremony, will be held at the Hamilton Wesley Uniting Church, 150 Beaumont St, Hamilton from 10 am on Tuesday July 11. Vale Rex. ------------------------------------- 10. There is a new virus - WOBBLER ------------------------------------- Message from Guy Cater 1. There is a new virus - WOBBLER. It will arrive on e-mail title CALIFORNIA. IBM and AOL have announced that it is very powerful. There is no remedy. It will eat all your information on the hard drive and also destroy Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Do not open anything with this title and please pass this message on to all your contacts and anyone who uses your e-mail facility. Not many people seem to know about this yet so propagate it as fast as possible. 2. If you receive an e-mail titled "Win A.Holiday" DO NOT open it. It will erase everything on your hard drive. Forward this letter to as many people as you can. This is a new, very malicious virus and not many people know about it This information was announced yesterday morning from Microsoft. "Great Minds Think Alike" ------------------------------------- Message from Michael Chandler I would say that "Great Minds Think Alike" except I do not think that my mind is all that great. However Peter's routine with the gag bag sounds great and is not unlike one that I do. I keep a balloon for the "Needle Through Balloon" effect in the last compartment and do that effect when I eventually get to the balloon. ------------------------------------- 12.
